Amazing with all the talent on those teams, the best they could do was win 2 playoff series.
-Manager: Lou Pinella (should be HOF)
-Griffey in his prime
-A-Rod
-Randy Johnson
-Edgar Martinez
-Ichiro
-Jamie Moyer
-Jay Buhner
Plus a ton of good all star talent filler pieces like Joey Cora, Dan Wilson, John Olarud, Freddy Garcia, Brett Boone, Jose Mesa, Norm Charlton, Mike Cameron,

If not for a historically good Yankees dynasty they’d have won back to back rings. Just bad luck sometimes.

What's crazy is the 01 team was their best despite losing both Griffey and Randy Johnson.

That had no pitching after Johnson. By the time they finally found some pitching, most of their stars were traded, retired, or left as a UFA.

I don’t see them beating the 01 DBacks and that staff. The 2000 Mets were no slouch either

They advanced to the ALCS three times.
They lost to the ‘95 Indians who had an historically great offense.
They also lost to the Yankees dynasty-era squads.
This isn’t NHL or NBA. Bad or mediocre teams typically weren’t going to find a way to the postseason. That corps turned arguably the worst MLB franchise into WS contenders.

David Ortiz was in the M’s farm system 1992-1996.

Those 90s Mariners teams were my favorite along with the Indians

Then they stopped caring.

Their 97 squad was so loaded. They really underachieved that year. They were everyone's pick to win it all at the start of the year.

Jay Bruhner with a big wad of dip was the goat.
Dude hit the shite out of the ball.

Albert belle was on the indians.

They had a historically bad bullpen. In 1997, they had a bullpen ERA of 5.47, In ‘98, their bullpen ERA was over 5 and in 1999, they had a bullpen ERA of 5.94. It doesn’t matter how good the rest of the team is. No team is winning anything with a bullpen that bad.

"How can you trade Jay Buhner???"

Growing up a Rangers fan in the 80s and 90s I couldn't stand the Mariners.

Fun times with the 4 team division. Some crazy happenings. The Mariners ‘95 run capped off with a one game playoff against California. The strike shortened season with the Rangers leading the division despite being 10 games under 500. The Rangers breaking through, Juan Gonzalez owning the Yanks.

No, they cared. For almost 20 years they tried reloading that 2001 team with mediocre vets and stupid Cano like deals. They never broke down to do a rebuild until a few years ago. Julio Rodriguez is the Mariners first position prospect from the farm system on track to be a star in a long time. Kyle Seager was the only decent position player developed during the “reload 2001” era.

I think about how those early 90's Expos were in the same boat.
