We might make a stop in Cali. The extra pay well covers the extra expenses especially if you purchase a home, the sale of the home when you move back to the free world will more than make up for any cost of living expenses that are excessive for most of Cali.

At one time a company I worked for offered me a similar, or slightly better, position in California.
For basically no pay increase.
How does everyone else get offered double with the same company?

17,000+ plus post’s on here so I’ll assume you aren’t trolling, and if you’re happy with the administration we currently have VS the one you didn’t vote for, then I would say go right ahead. Politics and taxes aside, why is it even a question for double the salary?

You couldn't pay me enough to live in California.

Keep in mind that the cost of living difference will eat a bunch of that raise, you'll be earning more but at what cost?

The whole state of California is moving to Texas. Make money if you can but there’s a reason professional people are leaving there in droves.

This is an easy decision. Its likely you are making damn good money now (living in Southlake) so doubling it would be a helluva bump. While I love Texas, California is gorgeous. As for cost of living, its not going to be the severe jump everyone is assuming. Selling the rental property in this market will certainly give you some equity to put towards something in Orange County.

As for your political views, I don't necessarily agree with them, but I doubt that matters to you, nor should it. In very few cases would I allow national politics enter into my decision on where to live in this country.

Just considering housing, taxes, and gas, personally I’d have to be getting paid at least a half mil to even consider moving there. And even then it would be a really tough choice. Perusing Zillow for Orange County houses, what I would consider an upper middle class house in TX, LA, or TN is gonna run you at least 2 mil out there. And that gets you a nice house on a postage stamp lot.

Other thing to consider - the whole area is going to be on massive water restrictions very soon and what water is left is going to cost a fortune.

Currently living in San Diego.

Pros: Weather, Career Advancement, Mountains, Beaches, Golf

Cons: Homeless everywhere, taxes, Gas prices, housing prices, grocery prices, traffic, incoming water restrictions, politics, ocean is frigid 9 months out the year

The wife and I both make six figures and we are leaving within a couple years due to affordability. If you’re household isn’t bringing in at least 300k/year then don’t move.
