Louisiana still relying on nuclear, coal, and natural gas is probably going to help it this summer.

A U.S. energy crisis is emerging and electricity power-grid operators are warning of the potential of rolling blackouts as the summer heat arrives.

The peak electric demand period and high temperatures will lead to a shortage of supply, California's grid operator warned Friday, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Both the Midwest and Texas operators have also signaled potential electricity shortages for the peak demand summer season, according to the report.

An increasing reliance on solar and wind energy streams amid a transition from coal, natural gas, and nuclear power plants is leading the concerns. Not only is wind inconsistent, but the large batteries needed to store the power remain under development, the Journal reported.

Supply chain woes have exacerbated the large battery shortage.

"Every market around the world is trying to deal with the same issue," Electric Reliability Council of Texas CEO Brad Jones told the Journal. "We're all trying to find ways to utilize as much of our renewable resources as possible ... and at the same time make sure that we have enough dispatchable generation to manage reliability."

California regulators note delays in supplies, potentially through 2025, amid impending closures of gas-fired plants and a nuclear plant, Diablo Canyon. Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom has considered keeping that nuclear plant open to avoid shortages.

Pushing all those electric cars seems like a great idea when we can’t even turn the lights on in the fricking house.

Good opportunity to go into it with a fully charged car and export that power back to the grid when it's $1000/kWh.

Entergy will just sell Louisiana power out of state and cut off residents here to make themselves more money.

These politicians pushing so hard for "Green" energy at all costs. Yet they'll blame oil & gas for these shortage somehow, probably going to blame the shortages on global warming instead of their self-inflicted wounds. Big push for electric cars yet steadily limiting the electrical generating capacity.

After all this bullshite, there are still people out there that think it's a great idea to shut down a global economy over a virus

Cleco would do the same thing.

Entergy and Cleco already sell their excess power outside of the state. Sometimes they buy it. It’s all market controlled by MISO.

Is it me or does it seem like there has always been talk of electricity shortage? For some reason, I remember this being a thing when I was younger. Maybe not...

It might have been on Earth Day or some shite when they would tell us to not waste water and that we should never waste water, to make sure we never leave a faucet leaking or let water run in the middle of doing something.. And to always turn off lights you are not using, etc. I used to think it was stupid and that we would never run out of water.

I understand in some areas this could be possible, but Las Vegas is in the middle of the fricking desert and look at all the water they are able to have.

Im just going on about this shite, thinking out loud so to speak... But I will be honest, it is a pet peeve of mine when there is a phrase that becomes popular and then a bunch of people start using it as if it doesn't get to the point when people know when it can be applied. I am referring to.

Yep. The EU learned that lesson the hard way last year when the wind decreased in the late summer and most of the fall.

It's a little more nuanced than that. Their wind reliance isn't all that bad, but they have too much solar (with relatively garbage irradiance). And with that being said, with proper TMY based modeling, it's possible to expand but you have to leave a lot of on-demand generation to fill gaps. They got way ahead of themselves, grew intermittent sources too quickly which killed the economics of the fast reaction units and forced them out of the market and did it all with the most garbage of TMY datasets (if they even considered them).

I never thought it was possible to frick this country up this badly, this quickly.

The damage that Biden has been able to do is honestly impressive

Solar and Wind rely on the climate, right?

So if the climate is changing, and we are building all these wind and solar farms... hmmm ?
