The defense has turned around since Allen has been here hasn’t it?

yeah well. In AT's first interview, he said the staff said they'd play him in both spots and he was willing to play anywhere. Don't be a bit surprised if he ends being the Honey Badger succession plan.

This has nothing to do with my comment.

I think they do put too much emphasis on RAS but not on this pick. I wasn’t exactly thrilled with the pick but while Adebo was better than what our fans think, he could regress. I remember a lot of posters on here bitching about Adebo during in-game threads, begging for Roby. Taylor has really good tape and his athleticism is top tier. He may supplant Adebo by the end of the year. He’s got that alpha mentality and is a hard worker. That will get you far in the NFL.
I also don’t get the Payton Turner hate. Dude was tearing it up until he got hurt. And we know Cam won’t be here forever.

Right. But what op is saying is with everyone knowing all this, nobody still had him rated that highly. So what did a couple of people on the saints see that Tom’s of other people didn’t?

Everyone being mock drafters? I guess no one remembers their shitty takes bc they have nothing on the line. I just have to side with the Saints cast scouting department and coaches until it’s proven he was a bust. The have been one of the “smartest in the room” since Ireland came aboard.
We don’t know what the rest of the teams’ draft boards looked like. These “reaches” happens every year, especially in these Covid years. The saints didn’t pick again until the 5th round. If anything blame the lack of picks

They will never be competing at same position.

Is there a reason you didn't post his strengths?

You always play a college CB at CB until they can't. Much more valuable to have a good CB than a good safety

What could go wrong reaching on a DB in rd2?
Our new Stanley Jean Baptiste

SJP was one of the best players on the analyst board when he was taken. Different situation.

It was a terrible pick…as I have stated before. Downvote away
For what was available. I’d say you are correct.
From the weaknesses listed by OP, getting a Stanley Jean Baptiste vibe. He was very stiff and could not flip his hips at all. But was tall and could run.
Hope I’m wrong, but secondary help was one of the last things we really needed if they were signing honey badger. Much better talent on the board.
Pickens, Sky or McBride were the way to go.

Jenkins was always thought to be a 1st round pick and many thought his best position would be safety when he was drafted. Where is the comparison
Exactly, Jenkins was a Thorpe award winner and all American. He was a top 5-10 prospect that slipped some.
This guy has no where near the accolades or skins on the wall. Don’t know what’s the comparison.

Tell me you have no idea what you're talking about without telling me you have no idea what you're talking about.

It's understandable to question the logic or thinking of drafting Taylor when we did. But things can certainly be worse...the Patriots drafted Cole Strange at 29!

I like it load up on the back end. We also get a healthy Payton Turner it’s almost
Ike 4 new 1st rounders including Badger. Forgot M.T. healthy, man this team is going to take the league by surprise.
Just sit back and enjoy.

Chris Landry is a guy's opinion I respect.
Former scout and administrator.
he is still a consultant for NFL/college teams today.
I'm not going to copy exactly what he said off his page, but he did say it was a reach at the time in his opinion.
but he says Taylor's potential in man-to-man coverage may make him worth the reach.

Weaknesses
High-cut with leggy change of direction.
Labored hip corrections when juked by press release.
Very average recovery quickness in space.
Plant-and-drive acceleration from backpedal is lacking.
Limited burst to close allows pitch-and-catch from off-man.
Can be delayed in read/reaction to run plays.
Needs to shed blocks and wrap up the runner.
Not in a huge hurry to tackle bigger backs.
all those scream reach with lots of reach
he might be great but it seems like a reactionary pick when a BPA at another position would have been a surer pick. only time will tell if they got a diamond in the rough or a project player who struggles

He had like 9 tackles in 5 games with 1 sack. Tearing it up? That’s a bit of a reach.

More curious about the number of reps than games played.
But at least he looked the part.
