translation: unincorporated areas are paying for 20% of BRPD

LOL opponents argued for this saying "well people outside the city come into the city all the time so they should pay for the BRPD"

That is the problem.

Black people and democrats love taking money from earners, they just don't give anything back.

How can y’all have the energy to care so strongly about this. Just thinking about it bores me to tears.

For some reason it seems like the south Louisiana area is obsessed with state politics. I couldn’t find 10 people around where I live that would take the time to discuss any of this stuff

You can't undo that shite by inventing an imaginary border and renaming part of the city. The spread will continue.

You are a moron.

St. George is NOT seceding or separating from the City of BT BECAUSE IT IS NOT, AND HAS NEVER BEEN, PART OF THE CITY OF BR! It's called the "unincorporated area" for a reason.

It is also NOT seceding from EBR (although, I wish it was).

All PARISH taxes and services (water/sewerage) will continue to be paid. School taxes will stop going to EBRPSS once the new school district is established.

The St George concept only came about AFTER the Mayor President shot down the ISD. Not before. Your post is misinformed or an outright lie.

If the pols in the city would have let those citizens have their ISD, there would be no vote and no lawsuit.

She was a state legislator at the time (if I remember correctly) and it was the state that shot down the ISD, not city government.

Probably because we all live there or have lived there. If you don't care about local politics, you may as well never vote. The local level is the only place your vote really has any meaning in politics.

Six of one, half dozen the other.

The legislature refused to fund the district, lead by the Black Caucus, because the city and EBR Parish Schools threw a shitfit.

This is due to legal frickery within the legislature where the district was able to pass with a majority vote and is in law but they can’t fund it without a 2/3 supermajority.

What was wrong about what I posted? Baton Rouge government loves the extra tax dollars that taxpayers from southeast give them - they just don't want to be bothered with actually providing any public services to those taxpayers.

This is about as simply put as can be for anyone wanting to know the struggle. It's insane that it's continuing on. But people opposing St George cannot admit how absurd this is for some reason. Maybe if the city of BR didn't treat the unincorporated areas like shite we'd all be good. That's clearly not the case.

I heard that Jordan Faircloth lost the local election by 2 votes. I know 2 people that planned on voting for him but have Covid and couldn’t get pout to vote.. 2 freaking votes. Your vote DOES matter locally.

They treated the areas like shite because they didn’t think they would ever be able to incorporate.

fricking with them over the school district and the original petition to form a city, combined with SWB being an idiot and turning down an olive branch from the St George side, got us to it being a reality.

They City of BR did not annex Gardere, but they annexed a Casino into the city.

The headline in this morning’s Advocate is Furr calling St. George a money grab.

Now who was it that annexed the Casino, part of the Mall of La., the Marketplace Shopping Center on Siegen, and other commercial interests solely for tax purposes? Hint, it wasn’t St. George. The city did knowing they could not provide fire service and police service would be problematic.

How is it a money grab if the original argument by SWB et all was that St George would be a massive hike in taxes doe people living there?

With the rise of crime under Broome and Paul, this would be a comical black eye for them.

The international union of police want Paul to resign.

So, at this point, i haven’t been more for St George than i am right now and honestly just to see the ivory tower come tumbling down.

The immediate cry will be, “we failed because of racism” and nothing that the two of them caused

Murphy Paul is a joke, they have over 100 vacancies they can’t fill and word has been out if you are white you getting screwed over. Saw a picture in the sAdvocate of the last graduating cadet class, not one white person in it.

Cops I know still there tell me they can’t get out soon enough.

Ought to have a good pool of experienced officers to pick through for the St. George Police Department.

I agree the dept in bad shape.

If the logic of one form of Government saves money versus different layers this metro council form of government benefits one side not the other.

1) council members have always told me they have a obligation to City of BR.

I didn’t vote for you to say well BR comes first. You should represent what is best for your district and then parish.

2) if one form of government is better.
We need to do away with
BRPD
BRFD
Baker PD
Baker FD
Zachary PD
Zachary FD
Central PD
Central has a fire district
All other fire districts.
All constable offices roll over into a parish wide dept.

Then just have one parish fire dept and one parish sheriffs office. Then people from the parish already vote for the sheriff. They would be able to vote for the fire chief and constable.

There we solved the duplication of services.

How are they breaking away from a city that they currently are not a part of? The entire boundary of the St. George is outside the city limits of Baton Rouge.

St. George is still going to be part of EBR Parish.

They currently pay for services that do not serve them and they want it to stop. They first wanted a school district and then Sen Broome told them if they wanted a school district, start your own city,...so they did. Now she is suing them as mayor.
