Plus this years picks 98, 101, 120, 237
Saints ended up getting Olave the 11th and 194 this year, seems like a lot. If I missed something please point it out.
well something is missing because the saints gave up pick #16 as well so where did that pick 16 go if it wasnt part of this trade?

I hope he is Cooks v2. Cooks was good for us, Olave will not be with us in 4 years anyway. I’d be interested in seeing what 1st round WRs stayed longer than 5 years with the team that drafted them. After rookie contracts, you sign them then trade them.

Yes, we overpaid. For the most part, teams will have to give up more draft capital to move up in the draft. To see the value of the overspend, look at the dropoff from what we got in Olave to what we could have had at #16. Was it worth losing the equivalent of a late 3rd round pick to secure Olave instead of Jahan Dotson? I think so, but some may disagree.

In this case yes but no I’m not upset. The WR run was starting so we would’ve been stuck with our dicks out by #16
Also a big thing everyone is forgetting us when Payton inevitably coaches again after his year off we’ll get plenty of pick compensation back.

Burks will be a much better receiver then Olave. Wasted picks in my opinion.
You don’t know that and most disagree with you.
I think Burks can play in the NFL, but I think he is a slot/possession guy. That’s not what the Saints need to compliment MT13. We can get that from Caldwell or even TreQuan. We need someone who can create separation. That’s what Olave, Williams and Wilson do. Burks and London are jump ball, sit in the zone across the middle guys.

you left off this years pick 16 that they also gave up, that makes this trade even more lopsided

There has been a premium on WRs for the past few years because of how offenses are now. But that does not really relate to the draft.
While the demand is high, there are also more good WRs available because CFB is mirroring the same patterns, on down to 7 on 7 in HS.
This is a good WR class and teams will get good WRs into the 4th Rd. How teams are spending does not really affect that.
This was a normal WR draft until the Saints jumped up for Olave. Otherwise nothing too out of the ordinary
I agree with all of this

I think he was referring to what we had vs what we ended with. 16 doesn't factor in because we never used it. before the trades we had pick 18
I took us giving up all this
2023 1st
2024 2nd
Plus this years picks 98, 101, 120, 237
and moving back from 18 to 19 to get pick 11

You got to give it to them. They know who they like and are never afraid to go up and get them. I wanted Penning and Olave before the draft at 16 and 19 so I’m not too upset losing a couple comp picks to get them. Olave will complement Thomas better than any WR in this draft. Penning is just nasty and he will be a fan and coaches favorite.

Yes we did unfortunately.

The Saints obviously view their team as one able to compete with a down and wide-open NFC.
They go into 2022 with Jameis and Mike Thomas back. That alone puts you back in the postseason, if Allen can carry over what Payton had rolling. You put Olave out there too, and suddenly you're talking about maybe winning the NFC South. This team isn't in rebuild mode yet.

The 2nd comes into play when you factor how we got the 16th pick.
Trading the 18th & 7th rounder for the 19th, and 6th rounder is kind of a wash.
So, you have the Saints getting the 16th pick for a 2022 3rd, 2023 1st & 2024 2nd. They then traded the 16th, the other 3rd and a 4th to move to 11th.
When you add them up it looks like:
NOLA Gets: Round 1, 2022: No. 11 -- WR Chris Olave
Wash gets: Round 1, 2022: No. 16 -- WR Jahan Dotson
Wash gets: Round 3, 2022: No. 98
NYJ gets: Round 3, 2022: No. 101 (NO>Phi>Tenn>NYJ)
Wash gets: Round 4, 2022: No. 120
Philly gets: Round 1, 2023: Unknown
Philly gets: Round 2, 2024: Unknwon

Not a single one of us gets paid to make these decisions. All of you know it all’s have no clue. We finally got a receiver we needed that’s all that needs to be said!

It was an expensive price to move up 5 spots. I sure hope they saw a lot in him to justify the premium we paid.

Saints got hosed. Big time.
Posted on 4/29/22 at 11:56 am to Ponchy Tiger
Yes.
At least we got what we needed I just hope this doesn't come back to haunt us.

The last 4 years the Saints might have had the worst WR group in the league. Payton has ignored WR like a dumbass in a critical time with an aging QB. This pick was badly needed and had the Saints not gone up all the top WRs would have been gone. Had the Saints not drafted him he was going either Washington or Detroit. We saw what Detroit did on a WR coming off an ACL tear.

Yea they def did. Would have surely been there at 16. Absolutely dumb move.

The Saints did not have to do any of this to fill this same need.
In fact waiting until 16 & keeping by mid round picks could have went further to improve this area of need

It was a “third” round pick only because they consider comp picks 3rd, and a fourth rounder. That’s not overly expensive.we have a pretty stout roster overall.
