Outdoor TV antenna UPDATE

I live in Baton Rouge and dropped Cox Cable and purchased a few outdoor antennas. The current one I have is

However I can't get channels out of Lafayette or New Orleans even though it's supposed to be 150 mile radius.
I have it attached at the highest point on the house. Anyone have suggestion on a good antenna with long range?
Thanks

As a child, I learned that if I went outside and slowly rotated the antenna every few minutes the adults inside drinking beer could apparently see the football game better. That would probably be child abuse these days though.

How high is it?
And most times those antennas are marketing junk and claim longer ranges than real world use.
Also pointing is going to come in play. Luckily, if it is the model pictured it should have a rotator. New Orleans is ESE of you and Lafayette is to the WSW of you. So you will have to reposition it each time you want to catch a channel in those areas.
Baton Rouge also has two major affiliates on VHF, and the VHF elements on that antenna are really small so good luck with WBRZ and WAFB. Also, KLFY is on VHF in Lafayette too.

According to the chart in your link, you'd have to have your antenna 60ft high to get a max range of 150ft. You will probably need to raise it to at least 40ft for your area.

Make sure you point the one you have in the right direction.
I have this one in my attic in Lafayette and get all the BR station clearly.

You might want one of these instead, if you switch, in order to better target multiple directions.

At some point doesn't lightning become a major concern?
I know it's always a possibility, with or without an antenna, but when your antenna is way higher than surrounding trees, don't you increase the odds considerably?

150 miles across a large lake maybe.
It's all about direct lines.
I live in a bit of a valley and I couldn't pick up anything unless I have a 50 foot antenna next to me.
And I tried that same one as you in the OP

Keep in mind that the channels may be out of Lafayette or New Orleans but their towers will be outside of those cities. For example, two of the Lafayette channel towers are located WNW of Lafayette, between Rayne and Duson. The link shows the distance to the towers.

It may not be your antenna. Could have to do with the broadcast strength coming from the source.

I can't stop laughing at this

Even though it says 150mi it probably doesn’t have that range.
The price usually is the tell.

Nothing like a good lightning bolt to hit your antenna and turn your old wooden cabinet Tube color tv into black and white by frying the phosphor sensors.

Just pay for YTTV and get a Roku. Much easier.

Growing up we didn't get cable TV in my area until after I was out of High School so we had a antenna my entire childhood and never was was ours struck by lightning nor have I ever knew of anyone it happened to.

Hell I can remember growing up here in Ponchatoula on the rare occasions the Saints were on Monday Night football we could turn the antenna the right way and pick the blacked out games on channel 13 out of Biloxi in the second half.
