Next time read the rules before competing. Her coach should have known.

Oh they did, and she did....but wanted to make a statement and push the race card. Seems like they got what they wanted by the rule change for next season.

My daughter ran track. She had to remove all jewelry to compete. Know the rules. Coach should be up on rules. Lots of them don't make sense.

The three lifts involved are squat, bench, deadlift.

The beads are potentially an issue on the squat between danger to the lifter and danger to the people spotting them.

Due to stepping on one that might fall out?

That, or them getting caught on the bar or something else.

If one of those snags on the pad on the bar, or on the clothes of the spotter, you potentially have a bar with hundreds of pounds on it going loose.

If I was a powerlifter at meet and slipped and hurt myself on a fricking hair bead, I'm Swinging plates.

The fact that my daughter has so many clips that I use the extras on chip bags leads me to believe it isn’t just a black culture thing.

If it was a rule and it was in the rule book than take it out or don't compete. Always going straight to the racism card is ridiculous. Accountability is severely lacking these days.

It doesn’t necessarily mean it’s racist but she still has a point.

I disagree based on a few points.

1. They didn't just create the rule the week before the meet. If she didn't know it ahead of time, her coach certainly should have.

quote:

“The clips, the beads, that’s in our culture,” she says. “When they wrote the rules, they weren’t writing it for White people or other people, they were writing it for my people.”

2. This is the new "boy who cried 'wolf'", except that the villagers are still running to the pasture to scare off the wolf which isn't there. Females of all races wear clips and beads (although beads are a bit more prevalent in black culture).

3. If they are banning hair clips, which many races wear, bandanas, etc. then purposely excluding beads simply because blacks are more likely to wear them would be racist.

This makes no sense. Black people are more likely to have beads. Therefore, they are more likely to need to remove them to comply with rules for safety.

It would be racist if they had to pick their dad out of a lineup.

That makes the point. Excluding something from being banned solely because members of a specific race are more likely to wear it is definitively racist. You are basing the allowance of something only on race while disallowing similar things regardless of race.

Beads in girl power lifters, not okay.

Y chromosomes are acceptable, however.

At our platform during state we had a judge red light a lifter without a warning for having a rubber band on his wrist that had just came off of his wraps for squat. Here's the kicker, to get on the floor, you have to wear a wristband like you would wear to show cover for being in a bar. I told the coach to appeal that bullshite. He did and won the appeal. The kid should have been warned not given a bad lift after the judge caught it after a good lift was awarded. If you are caught twice you don't get the lift.
On the beads I'm not touching with a 10 foot pole. As somebody stated earlier, the coach and lifter should have known the rules, which were posted online back in November. The doo rag and headband rule was put into affect because of lifters from Lake Cormorant, who were all clean cut, and just wore the things to wear them. I could see if they had long hair or braids which they didn't. They did it just to look cool. Powerlifting judges and soccer guru rules experts can be the worst. Some will even try to make up fake rules and claim they are a rule.
