Racism Accusations at the MS High School Powerlfting Championship

Powerlifters rally to help girl at state championship who faced disqualification over hair beads
quote:
“I was a little angry,” said junior Diamond Campbell. “I [felt] shame a little bit, I kind of felt humiliated, like I was being picked on in a way.
“The head judge came up and she said, ‘She can’t wear the beads,’” Campbell says.
.”
quote:
Campbell says her teammates and coaches worked frantically to try and get the beads out in time. “‘You got to take them out or you can’t lift, they’re gonna disqualify you, they’re taking your first lift away,’” Campbell said, repeating the message from her coaches. What happened next was one of those rare moments in sports that transcends the competition itself. “Before I knew it, I had like eight different girls in my head and they were all taking (the beads) out,” Campbell said.

The rule preventing lifters from wearing certain types of headgear has been in place for years. But Bruce’s powerlifting coach Angie Owen says the itemized list is a new amendment that was just added. “This year, they went in and they itemized things like bandanas, beads, hair clips, those kinds of things,” Owen said.
quote:
Campbell says she believes the rule unfairly singles out African Americans. “The clips, the beads, that’s in our culture,” she says. “When they wrote the rules, they weren’t writing it for White people or other people, they were writing it for my people.”
quote:
“I just used it as motivation to push me to get the weight so they couldn’t pick out any other things wrong with me other than my hair,” Campbell said.
quote:
MHSAA Head Director Rickey Neaves said Tuesday that the rule banning beads is being revised and will be removed for the 2022-2023 season.

When everything is racist. Nothing is.

Translation: it's more important for her to express her blackness than to compete.

1. That seems like a really dumb rule
2. White bitches were clips and shite in their hair
3. I hate Democrats for making race grievance a goddamn currency

What possible advantage would a person have by wearing hair beads?
Posted on 4/20/22 at 12:00 pm to Revelator
Maybe it’s some sort of hazard based on the types of lifts.

Nope. When everything is racist, some things will be even more racist.

It’s a hazard, it’s not because it gives someone an advantage. Just like high school baseball, no jewelry, ear rings, or anything like that. It’s a safety issue. Now I don’t know if beads in hair has any kind of hazard, but it’s not in place because they’re trying to single out African Americans. In baseball, the teams that give the most problems with jewelry and stuff, are the big white schools, that care a lot about baseball.

Next time read the rules before competing. Her coach should have known.

exactly. leave it in. catch a bead on the bar while doing deadlift. break neck for culture. don't care.

Why did her coach let her compete doing *anything* that was in violation of the established rules? (New or not).
If the rules were passed prior to the event, they're in force, like it or not.
If she wore them anyway, then they were looking to play the race card. Point blank.

He got into a fender bender yesterday with an uninsured motorist and had $2700 (1981 dollars) worth of damage.

Well to be fair none of those things help her lift more weight so why do the judges care.
It doesn’t necessarily mean it’s racist but she still has a point.

When something is only used by white people and uncle toms, it automatically means that it’s racist and must be banned. However, if an object is primarily used by black people, then it’s their culture.

Stupid rule to begin with plus vain as frick “victim” = nobody gives a shite.
Posted on 4/20/22 at 1:08 pm to DingLeeBerry
Athletes at district, regional, and state championships are given lists of shite they can’t do if they are going to compete.
I had people flip out that someone doodled on them with a marker on the date of a regional because it might be considered a tattoo and be covered up before she could run.
If she can’t read the fricking rules before competing, should she even be there?

The three lifts involved are squat, bench, deadlift.
The beads are potentially an issue on the squat between danger to the lifter and danger to the people spotting them.
