For young children, there is nothing better than a van. If for nothing else, the sliding doors in tight parking spaces.
Of a person values form over functionality (image over substance if you will) or can't afford two vehicles for the family, they should never get a van.

I understand money is an issue, but buying a van for 4 kids that has 115,000+ miles is not a great idea financially OP. That things going to likely need work soon. You would likely be better off buying one for a little more with less mileage. Vehicles like vans with a lot of stuff that can break really start falling apart around 100-115k miles.
Why can’t you fix the current vehicle? I’d consider that even if it’s like a new transmission?
But option B for sure with that much less miles.

They both have about 10,000 miles left in them before they’re junk.
Ask yourself which vehicle would best protect your wife and kids from the elements or crash impact on the side of the road when it breaks down in 1-2 years.
Cut some money out of your budget and find something closer in age to 2017 with less miles.

Less mileage is the deciding factor, but I’d have an impartial mechanic inspect it.

All your kids should be able to fit in this:

When you start getting into 10+ year old vehicles condition and maintenance is way more important than mileage. That's the age when plastic and rubber parts start to degrade, UV damage starts to show, and lots of expensive maintenance needs to be done. 155k vehicle with a complete service history, garage kept, etc you could easily drive another 100k without putting much if any work into it. 115k but needs all the ball joints replaced? Timing belt and water pump done? Exterior plastic and rubber parts UV damaged from being kept outdoors in the summer heat?

Still no discussion by OP re: price of the vehicles We know one is $1000 less asking price.
OP also needs to learn to negotiate.

To respond to several posters, here are some more details:
Both are Honda Odyssey's and both are being sold by big-name local dealerships after going through thorough inspection and maintenance before re-sale. I'll have to look again, but I'm pretty sure both dealerships replaced the timing belts.
Not sure the driving history for each. The CARFAX only shows so much.
2014 Odyssey EX-L (115k miles) is going for about $16,500
2015 Odyssey EX-L (155k miles) is going for about $17,500
I haven't negotiated yet, so those prices may come down slightly. (I have negotiated car prices several times in the past.)
ETA: If we try and go with a 2017 with lower miles, we're looking at close to a $4k-$5k jump in price. Not willing to do that just yet. We are in a sticky situation this year and are having to replace our current van because repairs far exceed the value of the car. The plan is to have one of these used vans last us 3-5 years until we can fork over a little more for a newer and more reliable model/year.

Unsure of general location, but
2016 96k $18k

I’d rather pay up front that 20-25% premium for a substantively better vehicle.

Yeah, A bunch in the DFW area. Cheap airline ticket, Uber, you are on your way. Expand your range. If traveling is not an option, you can get cars delivered there from DFW for about $650.
Yes, this one is more, but considering all the others, a real bargain. Really nice leather. Very low miles.
