Glad we locked up one of the last legit national titles cause who knows what the future of collegiate athletics holds

"The concept of name, image and likeness was for players to be able to use their name, image and likeness to create opportunities for themselves. That's what it was," said Saban. "But that creates a situation where you can basically buy players. You can do it in recruiting. I mean, if that's what we want college football to be, I don't know. And you can also get players to get in the transfer portal to see if they can get more someplace else than they can get at your place."

"I know we have to adapt to that," said Saban. "You're going to have kids out there that say, 'Well, I can get a better deal going someplace else,' and they'll go there. But you're also going to have people that see the light and say, 'Yeah, they've got a good history of developing players. They got a good history of developing people, they got a great graduation rate and that value is more important.'

Glad he’s speaking truth. People listen to him.
Whether the new landscape of CFB ends up being good or bad for LSU, I don’t care… the current landscape - specifically NIL - is awful and if not curtailed will eat away at the CFB we know and love. And I’m still pissed at all the “they deserve to get paid” people that contributed to the current unsustainable landscape becoming reality. Now after-the-fact everyone with a brain realizes this wasn’t the appropriate solution.

Now everyone can do what Bama did best.

I’m sure he’d rather go back to having a bagman in Amite.

Amite barber works for some company that signed the New Iberia tight end that signed with them this past class and his teammate that is a 5 star safety. Feels like he is headed to bama too

There is no solution other than limiting the Transfer portal. The people that are for NIL don’t care what it does as far the fan base etc. I guess we will see if kills the passion for the sport of most fans.

He is full of s$$t. He is complaining about NIL but he will be at the forefront of buying players just like he was before NIL.

They did and do deserve to get paid.
The NCAA had 10 fricking years to figure out a system that allowed players to get paid while maintaining the sanctity of the sport.
Instead of doing that they dug their heels in for a losing fight and the Supreme Court take it out of their hands.
Don’t blame the fans and don’t blame the players. Blame the fricking blue hairs who knew better but wouldn’t let go of their own greed and avarice long enough to do what needed to be done.
Every bit of this was easily avoidable if Mark Emmert had a fricking clue

NIL and Portal are ruining college athletics. Just get rid of the NCAA, stop paying players, go back to penalizing them a year for transferring, and fix the problems.

Saban is just pissed that the playing field got somewhat more level. Now anyone can throw money and not worry about being caught. He had the luxury of being one of the only programs that could get away with it at a ridiculous level. I’m sure he is butt hurt about it.

So what he’s saying is Jimbo is a bitch and can’t win the SEC organically because he’s a sub par coach?
Posted on 4/13/22 at 7:53 pm to CajunStoneCold
Duh, but these people don’t care, they’ll just pervert the sport beyond all recognition and hope the ever more ignorant population will just eat shite.

Unfortunately the players and more importantly the babies mama's won't. All they see are dollar signs. Happened right here in my hometown on signing day.

College athletics is basically without a governing body now that NIL is in effect. The NCAA is not going to step in for fear of litigation. There’s no one to impose any type of regulations or guard rails to keep schools on somewhat of a level playing field. There’s about 5 schools in the FBS who will just spend their way to buying all of the elite talent either from high school or other college rosters.

Will be interesting. Long term, there will be national endorsements vs mostly just local. This could even the playing field and even create some sustainability and parody.
That said, in the near future it could play out oppositely and fans, along with the elite players, will become less loyal and interested.
Regardless, it is not going away.
