That’s exactly what he means. What’s your point? It’s not hypocrisy to say the rules are bad, while playing by those rules. Saban said that the refs were allowing illegal men downfield, which made it impossible to play defense. He complained about it, but he adapted to it and won championships.

Agree 100%, what nobody is talking about but should be is this makes minor league football a viable option. If you look around the world at where sports end up that is the next step. Schools better start preparing for the argument of why should I go to school at all.

Saban is realizing the limitations of coaching in friggin tuscalooser alabama where the opportunities for a kid to make money are very limited.
Kids in Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, or other large metro areas have everything from small local to international opportunities to make money and he cannot compete with that.
Frankly lsu can’t either
Not sure what the real reason for NIL but I have suspicions that Some of the reason was to put the hurt on SEC teams if not the SEC as a whole

Exactly. When the spread offenses took off with no huddle he cried like a bittch about it..... within 2 years he was running a spread offense with no huddle.

The REC has been buying players since he got there. Julio Jones going to Fairhope or Foley or whatever school in South Alabama was basically funneled to Alabama on waves of money. Saban is bitching about something that he didn’t have to compete with in the past.
We all saw what kind of coach he is when the talent has parity in the NFL. He’s at the end of his time so he’s going to complain about “the way it used to be”.

The commercialization of college athletics is complete.
It will never be the same, and good luck to those who support these radical changes!
It was good while it lasted.....

That’s the literal definition of hypocrisy. Saban is a hypocrite. A smart one who takes advantage of the situation, but still a hypocrite

Pretty rich coming from the head coach of a program that has been doing exactly that for decades. They’re just pissed that everyone else has the same opportunity now, so their run of dominance is over!

You're going to have kids out there that say, 'Well, I can get a better deal going someplace else,'
How did he just get his starting cornerback?

Exactly what the “new” USFL is. They’ll start with washed-up has-beens, but will be signing kids out of high school in a couple of years. Mark my words.

Meanwhile he is taking full advantage of the transfer portal and don’t try to tell me that he doesn’t have staff and indirect channels trying to entice kids to Bama before they actually enter the portal. He went out and was the first one spouting off to the media about Bryce’s million dollar NIL deal last year so that all the high school recruits would hear it. Was that announcement in the best interest of Bryce before he ever played a down, or how about the team or the process. Self righteous

Right? I mean he got Vandys starting LT......Georgia Techs stud RB, and a 5 star CB from LSU through the Portal..... his best WR this year came from Ohio St......and they where openly working Boutte before he was even in the Portal. Cry me a River Saban

I mean he isn’t wrong. You can’t have the transfer portal and NIL. It just becomes a bidding war
Posted on 4/13/22 at 9:03 pm to CajunStoneCold
He's just butthurt that everyone can give players a Dodge Charger.

NIL was for player to profit if a jersey was sold or image was used, say, on a video game. They should not allow it until players are sophomores or give rewards for bowls or championships. High school and incoming freshman shouldn't get money until they have actually benefitted a university. Some big booster is going to get burned by a one-and-done and sue a player. It will get ugly

Why are you ok with sophomores and older profiting off their name and image but not someone younger. Why are you trying to limit a person’s ability to profit off their name based on their age?
This is exactly the problem with NIL and anyone with a functioning brain could see this coming. Once it’s started you cannot regulate or control it. Literally opening Pandora’s box.

He’s trying to say that boosters aren’t going to be able to pay stupidly inflated wages to players while continuing to pay stupidly inflated coaching salaries.

what he’s saying is Jimbo is a bitch and can’t win the SEC organically because he’s a sub par coach?
