The Jazz are in turmoil right now. Mitchell is expected to be moved this summer.

We dont need another star. We need potential quality on rookie contracts because our stars are gonna want $$$$ soon.
This is how we stay relevant for the next 6 years

We could also literally end up with neither pick.
What do you think is most likely with this franchise?

I like Mitchell, but to get him you'd give up depth and length. He's a top 5 guard, but I'd disagree he's a fringe top 5 player. He's in the higher end of the second tier of stars
Buy those guys low like McCollum where you gave up next to nothing.

Not in the trade that I proposed or inquired. It's the 3 picks and 2 players (they could add in Temple to make the money work).
Starting 5
McCollum, Mitchell, Ingram, Zion, Val
Bench
Alvarado, Lewis, Murphy, Jones, Hayes, Hernangomez, plus we would still have exceptions.
It could work, in the miniscule world where we would get the first two picks. I just don't know if that is enough or too much to get Mitchell. I don't like star chasing. But that is a Championship level team and would be the best starting 5 in the league. Plus, a really good bench..

Dude stop playing 2k that line-up would be so bad defensively that I don't even want to picture it. And on offense there is not enough shots to go around. Plus there's no way we could afford this.
And I can't get over you calling Mitchell a borderline top 5 player dude is borderline top 15 and that is being really generous.

The starting lineup is set. If you want to replace anyone you have to upgrade them. To upgrade even "lesser" players like Herb, you still pretty much need a Star level player that does the same things.
You don't replace Herb with Mitchell, you replace him with Kawhi. JV would be replaced with KAT. But then you get into cap and tax issues. It's just really hard to find upgrades for this team via trade or FA.

Would picks 1, 2, future 1st, Graham and Nance be enough to get Donovan Mitchell from the Jazz?
Wtf

That’s 4 guys that shoot the ball 18-20 per game. NBA teams take around 85 shots a game. I think Mitchell is great but another high volume offensive player to add to Zion CJ and Ingram probably isn’t what we need. It’s partly why Herb is perfect for us going forward.

Turn JV into Gobert, Graham into Clarkson.

I'm expecting them to trade Rudy for lesser parts that don't add up to arse much as keeping Rudy would, but they hope it works out because that's what you do when your star player is pressuring you and hates his co star. After that fails then we'll get the "I didn't demand a trade" trade demand from Mitchell. So it's at least a year away I think (trading Mitchell, not Gobert. That might happen this offseason).

How would the salaries not match? Graham and Nance make over 20M combined. Throw in Temple and that is 25M+. Mitchell is scheduled to make 30M. It's not an obstacle to match salaries over the summer.
BTW, if we kept those two picks, it would be more expensive. Both of those picks would make around 10M a year. I don't think it counts in the trade. But the trade would save us money.

Ok. That isn't that big of a deal to me. I think he is arguably the best SG in the league. SG is our biggest hole. We can't get Booker or Luka. Harden, Lillard and Beal are damaged goods to me (way more expensive). So I was looking for a guard to match with McCollum. SGA and Murray are close. But I thought that Mitchell is the better fit.
Do you not believe that we could upgrade at SG? No one wants to play McCollum at SG. We need another shooter that can help spread the floor. It's the best spot to add value.

Would Mitchell come off the bench? I’m confused as to where we would play him in this hypothetical unrealistic scenario

I’m not sure if I’m the only one, but I would take Jonas a million times before Gobert

We are cursed with injury luck
We are blessed with draft lottery luck

Rudy for Russ, who is then bought out

Jones and Ingram are not SGs (Murphy too). They are not going to play there full time next year. We are basically playing with one guard right now. We are getting by, far from optimal. Teams are going to go small against us and run us out of the gym. We need more talent in the backcourt. Mitchell is a SG, he would play there. He is short, but incredibly strong, physical, long and athletic.
I'll get blasted for this. But I think that Jones is a potential 6th man monster. Ability to slide and guard 1-5 in spurts makes him special. Slotting him at SG
full time would be a mistake IMO. I want him to be a rover and move from spot to spot as needed..
