Worst coaching decision of the year

Not taking Money out after about 90 pitches. Three times batters have faced him. He’s lost his stuff. Time to take him out and bring in Gervaise. It cost us 6 runs.I like our new coach, but that cost us the game.

I said the same. Hope he’ll learn from it. We can take the next two easy. This is not a good Auburn team, but I give them credit for taking advantage of us leaving in Money.

That inning was supposed to be easy. We had 8/9/1 coming up. Infield hit off Money. Bunt for hit because Tre dives and Money isn’t there.
Then we actually get things under control. Out on sac then infield fly.
All hell breaks loose. We intentionally walk fatty with 2 outs. “Error” on Morgan and 2 runs score.
Here is where Money should have been pulled. You still have a tie game. You need a reset. Gervase is ready to go. But Money is left out to dry. He gives up a 3-run HR. JJ is scrambling now. He doesn’t want to use Gervase and waste him on a loss for the weekend. So Money stays out and Cooper goes to get warm by by then it’s too late… another run crosses and JJ seems to throw in the flag and let Money just finish things out on his own. Unacceptable sequence by Money, Tre, and Jay. They all shoulder blame. And you end up using Gervase in a loss anyway and get him up warming 3 different times in the process basically losing him for tomorrow.

I have to agree. Should've taken him out when he got to around 90 pitches.
Also have to agree with ColdTurkey where he said hopefully he learns from it. He being Johnson. I like the guy but Money shouldn't have been in the game at that point.

Pretty good breakdown. Im not sure how the staff didnt notice his fastball falling off the last inning. He was down to 91. Usually sits 94-95. 91 with his stuff just aint gonna get it. Terrible decision to leave him in, got greedy.
Especially on a short week

Pitch count means nothing. How many times a batter sees a pitcher means nothing. How a pitcher is actually throwing and how the batters look facing him is all that matters and at that point in the game, Money was fine.
That inning should have been over before a run scored. No matter what the score keeper marked it, those were errors, balls that need to be caught, and outs that have to be made.

Has to be a troll. Has to be.

Even if this was true (which it's not), Money had lost 4-5 mph off his fastball. So if you're looking at "how a pitcher is throwing" he was regressing.

The Tre Morgan “hit” that was given up was the turning point. There’s no way Morgan should have been charging the ball to take it on a short hop in that situation. The ball was hit plenty hard enough to stay back and field it and then toss to the pitcher to get the out. Plus, even if you aren’t getting the out at first by staying back, you at least knock the ball down and don’t let it by you. That was HORRIBLE situational baseball. That’s on Morgan trying to do too much, not the coaches. At worst, should’ve been tied coming out of that inning.

No, errors cost us 6 runs. Money should've been out of the inning unscathed, with a new pitcher starting the 6th. I swear y'all wanna make up so many reasons to be mad at JJ

Yep. 2 outs, bases loaded. Money had been solid, & expects you to get him out of that inning with a routine play. He looked so dejected after Morgan's error. Then boom, next batter with a 3 run homer.
This loss was on Morgan.

Hindsight is 20-20. I do agree that I would have taken him out right there, I understand why Johnson left him in. There have been times where Money or Taylor or some of our other pitchers have ran up their pitch count but got out of jambs.
I think going forward Johnson will keep that in mind, but again hindsight is 20-20 if we got out of that inning the way we were supposed to no one questions that decision.

God dammit Mainieri!

Whether you like it or not, when the two runs come across and it’s first and third, Jay has to make a move. He can’t undo what Morgan and Money did, but he can go in and pull his pitcher who is obviously tiring and rattled. He can’t just watch his starter give up 6 runs earned or not.

If this is his worst decision of the year we have a great coach! When your ace hasn't been knocked around and has thrown 90 pitches you let him try to get out off it. Had Money covered first none of those runs score.
Posted on 4/1/22 at 7:43 am to GoDeepCoach
all the 6 runs happened with two outs, Jay shouldve taken Money out after the 3 run bomb.
Posted on 4/1/22 at 7:47 am to ell_13
Well you don't necessarily count on the next guy hitting a 3 run bomb after an error that should've ended the inning. Before the 3 run homer he had not given you a reason to be taken out. What you wanna take him out for, because errors were made behind him?
Were you watching something that I wasn't?

I was at the game watching. What were you watching?
