Afternoon everyone, hope y’all are having a good week. I have a question for y’all - I am looking for a handgun I can use for general home defense, possibly concealed-carry. I’m pretty well versed in handgun use and safety having owned a S&W .380 for a few years, and I’m looking for an upgrade. There are a few brands/models I’ve looked into pretty heavily, here are the main ones (all in 9mm)…

Smith and Wesson M&P Shield 2.0
Sig Sauer P320
Sig Sauer P365
Glock 19
Glock 43

Obviously my choice ultimately comes down to personal preference and I need to handle/shoot each one before making a decision, but I wanted to see if any of you have experience with any of those five guns. Also, if you have any other recommendations for solid 9mm, feel free to drop them in the comments. Thanks everyone!

IMO you can’t go wrong with any if the options you have laid out. It comes down to this…

I own all of those except for the Glock 43 (Sig P365xl instead of the P365).

You would be pleased with any of them. Just look and see which of those fit your hand and which comes to your eye the best and go from there.

If you can rent them and shoot them, do so.
If you want to add some others: H&K VP, Walther PPQ, Canik (I have no experience but they get rave reviews), FN P01, Etc.

I'm obviously a Glock nerd. I love the 19, but if you want to carry, look into the 43X. I got one recently and it's become my go to carry gun.

I have a 365 as well and I just can't seem to get comfortable with it. I've considering getting rid of it, but I had selling guns.

Smith and Wesson Shield plus. It's the perfect pistol for concealed carry and size wise, virtually indistinguishable from the 2.0. Also, with it's capacity it's well suited for double duty as a home defense weapon.

I have both pistolas and you really can't tell them apart.

The difference between the two is capacity and trigger. The capacity on the plus is 10+1 and 13+1. The 2.0 is 7+1 and 8+1.

The plus has a redesign trigger.

Both are really excellent.

I'd recommend looking at the Springfield hellcat and hellcat pro they just released. Of the ones listed the sig 365 and shield are both great options. I own both and love them.

My brother in law has a p365 and what makes it cool, is that it's a legit high capacity pocket pistol.

Shooting characteristics though, the shield gets the nod. It's a little bigger and handles recoil better. I think the shield almost shoots as well as a full size pistol.

Personally I have a larger frame gun for home defense vs my concealed gun. I would recommend a g17 or g19 with a light for home defense. Or the comparable sig 320/vp9.

My G19 is my Home Defense gun and my P365 is my prefer CC gun. Buy both.

P320F backing up the shorty in the house. P365XL in the waistband.

You are right though. Shoot them all and buy the ones you'll practice with and carry.

I have a g19 and g43 and have shot the m&p .
From what you have now I would say either the g19 or a g17. You already have the micro/sub compact covered with what you have. The g19 can be a CC/bedstand gun if you step up to a g17 or other full size then it’s a strictly bedside/truck gun.
For straight up accuracy and fun to shoot it’s hard to beat a full size.

Lot of good suggestions here and I own many of those mentioned, but I’d recommend a little larger frame for home defense than conceal sized firearms like the Sig 365, which I own (the XL) and enjoy. The larger frame will allow you to mount a light or red dot and you’ll find them typically less snappy and more recoil tolerable, which will allow you to be more accurate in a stressful situation. I would add a CZ75 to your list as well, and not necessarily one of the high-end variants. Great shooter, affordable, reliable and proven.
