This right here. Their armored vehicles will take up the entire road while we peons will have to walk on the shoulders. I'm not being very facetious here.

So abandon plastic, fabrics, dyes, fertilizer, pesticides, paint, electronics, medicines, modern chemistry, etc?

Good grief. These people would have us starve and go back to the stone age.

The "moderate" will be here all night if needed, trying to convince you that the liberal stuffed shirt is actually right, and the only way to be energy independent is to kill off our largest, cheapest energy source.

Just tell me because I am curious, please. What do we use instead of fossil fuels? What can we do so that our society stays more or less intact?

To say, "They are openly saying they want to kill fossil." is NOT to say, "the federal government constantly attacks and regulates one sector into oblivion". The first says what someone wants to do, the second says what they are doing. You said the government regulates one sector into oblivion. That is not actually the case. Then you say 'they' want to "kill fossil" which implies it's something that isn't actually happening.

I'm sorry if you think actually being clear is playing games, but you seem to have something in your mind that is prohibiting you from actually understanding the conversation.

I'm a moderate

And there it is, your preconceived notions of my political leanings. You assume that I'm some radical liberal green head that wants to kill fossil fuel use, and you view everything I say through that lens. In spite of the fact that nothing I've stated in this thread has indicated anything of the sort. To say, "There's nothing morally wrong with zero fossil fuel use, it's just a matter of practicality. I would say that minimizing dependence on fossil fuels would lead to greater energy independence." is NOT to say, "OMG!!1! Nuclear energy is going to irradiate us all to death, and if we don't stop using fossil fuels, we're going to go the way of the dinosaur!!1!"

My positions ITT have been moderate, in spite of your bias against me.

I wouldn't say that that's the ONLY way to energy independence, but it could.

Oil is a guaranteed way of being energy independent

There is also nothing morally wrong with 100% fossil fuel use

it's just a matter of practicality.

Oil is incredibly practical

Please explain how increased utilization of our own domestic resources is not believing in the free market.

How do you propose to increase that utilization?

By the fedgov getting out of the way and letting the market do what the market will do sans interference.

Only a brain dead leftist refuses to see that. Only a brain dead leftist would argue that letting the market run without unnecessary meddling by the government is somehow anti-free market.

How in the world is utilizing the fossil fuels we have and becoming energy independent telling refineries where they can buy their stock?

It’s the government telling these companies what they CAN’T do that’s the problem. And that’s what is inhibiting the free market.

But idiots don’t get that. Or worse they do get it but don’t care.

That implies we can't sell those supplies on the global market

No it doesn’t. You are inferring that based on your own idiotic biases.

But the fact remains, if government got out of the way and let us utilize our own resources, it would go a long way to reducing foreign dependency…and you don’t have to force companies to sell on certain places to do it.

Perhaps I'm not understanding what is meant by, "utilizing the fossil fuels we have" in the context of the fact the we already utilize domestic supply

Talk about being disingenuous. Are we utilizing our supply as best we can? Are utilizing it in an efficient manner? Is the government not blocking increased production?

Sure, we use domestic supply but it is complete bullshite to imply that we can’t utilize significantly more.
