That's true, across a time-line of decades, if not centuries of R & D and gradual transition in a capitalist model, accelerated only by a revelation of mythical or alien technology hidden from the populous.

He did not say we would stop making plastics out of oil. This is a red herring of the right. He said "Fuel" "Fossil Fuel".

Aren't most polymers a byproduct of FUEL refining? Can you just refine oil for plastic polymenrs and not have any byproduct that you have to concern yourself with?

I'm not a petroleum engineer, so I don't know.

They don't care if the poors don't have electricity or can afford houses. They want a fricking hunger games society.

I wouldn't say of the highest order, but it's not CURRENTLY possible. I don't think anyone is saying let's stop using fossil fuels to generate electricity this afternoon.

But to generate electricity you basically just have to rotate a magnetic field inside of a coil. There are a multitude of ways to do that, commonly steam turbines are used. There are even many ways to generate steam - utilization of the heat generated by nuclear fission, or utilization of geothermal energy, are two examples. Undoubtedly the future will reveal other methods of either rotating the magnetic field, or of generating steam.

I can’t wait to see us all travel by steam engine again - wood burning steam engines at that.

What will the tree huggers do when we have to deforest just to keep warm?

Why aren't we building way more nuclear power plants? We need to get busy with that. These high fossil fuel costs are only going to become more and more of a problem from here on out.

Plus they provide many good paying jobs both while under construction and to operate

The left wingers have gone completely nuts. They will support anything their ideological masters tell them to regardless of how unfeasible it is or how much they have to lie to do it.

It's no longer a political entity, it's a cult

The high cost of fossil fuels is created thei market manipulation/govt regulation/govt interference. The problem is completely controllable. Our govt and other govts around the world intentionally hike the cost of fossil fuels..

Well, we will get to "zero" fossil fuel use - once they're all gone. I just don't know how they sold the idea we can just "wish" electricity into existence. At the rates we use energy, if the left just stuck with "all of the above", they would have a leg to stand on.

They say "No!" to fossils, nuclear and they aren't really high on hydroelectric or geothermal. They're sold on wind and solar - which will forever have reliability and availability issues (solar, even if it produces enough, has to have a storage buffer - wind? Forget about it.) It is the damnedest position I've ever seen.

They have absolutely no idea at all how many very common, very essential things rely of fossil fuel.
