I have two TVs less than 2 years old. Everything I read says I can plug in any antenna and get HD locals on the TV source. I can’t get anything at all on either. I also live in the middle of a city so I’m sure it’s not a distance issue.

Can anyone help a baw out?

I assume you are doing a channel search.

Search for coat hanger antenna on YouTube. It works way better than most antennas you buy at the store. I still have to place it near a window to get good reception though.

make sure it is a digital antenna and that the tv is set up to look for digital channels.

Did you let the TV scan for channels?

Newer TVs can tune to the antenna but you still have to walk around the room with the antenna like a chode to find certain channels. CBS can be pretty hard to find. I get FOX everywhere in the living room and NBC most of the time too.

In Atlanta I've found that antenna effectiveness varies widely by area.

Fourth floor of a Buckhead apartment building: lots of broadcast channels.

First floor of a Sandy Springs apartment building: nothing. Not one channel.

Single-family ranch house in Decatur: lots of broadcast channels, probably coming off Stone Mountain.

You have to make a switch in the settings in the TV. If the antenna plugged into coax port you need to go find that setting to switch from cable to antenna. Then let it scan for channels.

Even if you live in a city you should put the antenna close to a window or mounted outside if possible.

We don't use ours much(Saints Games and LSU on CBS) so we run that shite out the front door and set it in the bushes. I know it's ghetto but it works great for the 2-3 times a year we need it.

ETA: Oh and make damned sure you get a powered Antenna. One that needs to be plugged in to the wall AND the TV.

No issues here. I have antenna in attic. As other have said, let TV scan for channels.

Make sure the TV is set to antenna and not cable.

CBS in Baton Rouge has a weak signal on purpose. Asshats.

I found like a hundred channels through my antenna when internet was out. Some pretty bizarre stuff too...

it has to be the new antennas, the old style will barely catch anything

then point it to baton rouge or new orleans or nearest large city to you, whichever is closer to you

they work great and you get about 30 channels but trees can block signal as well as cell towers in direct line between you and where its pointing

You can get free HD channels as well. Best Buy sells one for 7-8 bucks and it's crystal clear.

I have seen a few references to a paper clip working, but it didn’t when I tried on 3 of my TV’s. Didn’t pick up a single channel.

Try adding some foil to it. It worked in the 80’s.
