i went to atlanta expecting to like but i thought it was a bigger shithole than new orleans or baton rouge. downtown is atrocious and buckhead is incredibly overrated.
It doesn't help that you go through miles and miles of shithole-ville from the airport to get to downtown.

I don't think San Francisco is under rated at all though. People know it's an awesome place. That's why it upsets me when they let some of their issues just sort of fester or go unchecked.
You could probably apply this thought process to New Orleans as well

Memphis
I think this city is accurately rated...lots of problems, but adequately charming with music scene, etc. Food is not underrated, BBQ is compared to Memphis worldwide.

Baton Rouge
Horrible, your take is inaccurate...people are bitchy and two-faced. Food is mediocre, better crawfish is in Alexandria, let that sink in..homeless everywhere, unsafe, and the worst traffic known to man.
If LSU and the Capitol weren't there, this place would bea refinery.

My personal favorite is Chicago
Ermhaghad, one good neighborhood does not a place make. You're right about it's comparison to NY and LA...but people from Chicago are mostly self-righteous shitheads. The food is OK...but big deal.
Nashville, St Louis, Omaha, Lincoln, Kansas City, Dayton, Cincy Indianapolis, C-bus are all superior to Chicago overall, and they are nearby. Hell, I'd rather live in Fargo personally than Chicago.
If you zip down the plains further, Oklahoma City is lights out better than Chitown.

Gatlinburg
That's an interesting choice. I will say if you can visit in a tourist lull it can be pretty damn fun.

Not sure how looked down it is, but Ft. Collins gets lost in the Denver/Boulder/Ski towns mix.
Ft. Collins is a real laid back college town.

Ft. Collins seems INSANE.
We drove through and stayed there on a trip home. We made a detour to check out the downtown area. It was madness. Seemed fun.

Don’t you know that speaking positive about Baton Rouge is not allowed on this board?

Buffalo
Rust belt vibes where they're trying to revitalize old buildings downtown. Have a AAA baseball team, the Bills, and Sabres for sporting events. You can't beat the summers there right next to lake Erie with tons of golf around. Niagara Falls is a half hr away. Excellent variety of food especially Italian. And the people are down to earth
Upstate New York people are worlds different than people from NYC. Very good friend of mine found out he has a half-sister that lives Rome, NY and a half-brother that lives in Fulton, NY. They are very much right wing and down to earth. Half sister is smoking hot too I would post pics but he’d kill me. He posts on here.

Reno is a good one, the city is depressing and weird but also fun and beautiful (with great access to all Tahoe has to offer).
I’ll agree with whoever said Jacksonville as well. Similar to Reno, you can definitely tell why people are down on it, but I’ve always had fun there

Paris.
People say it’s dirty and parisians are mean but I found it quite the opposite after spending a week there

To me there's very little redeeming about Jacksonville. I live in Florida and enjoy Tampa much more. Tampa beaches are far better than Jacksonville beaches and there's a much more varied food and nightlife scene in Tampa. Never mind the better airport and pro sports.
The only advantage Jax has is being close to St. Augustine (my favorite city in Florida) and Amelia Island. Downtown Jax is honestly pretty shocking with how empty and dumpy it is plus Jax has a lot of crime. Heck Downtown Jax doesn't even have the Landing anymore. How Jax ever got a Super Bowl is beyond me.
To me Jax is simply a somewhat nicer coastal beach version of Birmingham, Baton Rouge or Jackson.

I'll break my cities down this way:
Small Cities
Savannah - The smaller little brother version of Charleston and NOLA but I like the architecture, food scene and bar scene in Savannah more than Charleston. Plus you are close to Hilton Head and Tybee Island.
St. Augustine - My favorite city in Florida and it's not that close. One of the few cities in the state that has history and it's a history you truly feel. Plus not completely overwhelmed by people from the northeast or midwest. Still has a southern feel to it.
Burlington - Great outdoors city that is super underrated IMO.
Gatlinburg - Obviously very popular and probably not underrated but if it's not the super busy summer season or October the traffic is manageable and it's easy to have a lot of fun and is just a great town in general.
Mid-Sized Cities
Pittsburgh - Probably is leaving the underrated level but just a wonderful city in terms of activities to do, nightlife and a great pro sports scene.
Cincinnati - Another underrated cities with some great bars and people who for the most part are pretty friendly. Plus I do love the chili.
NOLA - I know, I hesitated to bring it up. NOLA obviously has its big problems but it's still one of the few American cities that actually has an identity. It's one of those cities that could be so much more if it could get its act together. I hate the crime and corruption problems as it holds back the city in a major way but I still love visiting.
Portland - Another one people here will trash but they have the best Japanese Gardens in the U.S., never mind some beautiful historic homes. Plus the beer scene out and being so close to the Columbia River Gorge (and all the amazing waterfalls) as well as being close to the coast and many state parks, I truly find it underrated. Like NOLA if they could only get the crime and protesting problem downtown solved Portland would be an amazing area to live in.
Big Cities
Chicago - I've not been to Chicago but I always hear the weather there from mid-May to mid-September is the best in the country. Plus the crime, as bad as it is, is mostly located in the south side away from downtown and most of the areas people go to. Plus there always seems to be an even to go to. I haven't been to Chicago yet but it's on my bucket list.

I went there 2 decades ago. I liked it generally speaking. But it sure does deserve the windy city moniker based on my experience.
