Is the Russian Army Really Failing?

I am no military expert, but I can compare what Russia is doing to past military operations. Ukraine is about 50% larger than Iraq and it took American forces about a month to get to and take Baghdad. The coalition sent in 177,000 ground troops into Iraq and it still took over a month.
So why is everyone saying Russia has failed just because they haven't taken a larger country (Ukraine) in under a week? Honest question.

Well, for one, I would expect Iraq (a fairly formidable army in its day) to put up a hell of a lot more fight than Ukraine.
If I recall correctly, Iraq was the #4 team on the planet at one point in the not too distant past.
They also had a more distinct home field advantage over us than would be the case between Russia and Ukraine.

They appear to be continuing their advance in a country who is resisting. Seems like they aren't failing that badly.

We didn't suffer the loses that Russia is sustaining. They can conquer Biden's slush country, but they are going to pay stiff loses. Lot's of young men are dying on both sides. Lots of damage being done.

We had to get all of that to the other side of the planet, and then get it over the border safely and to the capital.

because we live in the age of instant gratification. this war was over last night. they cut off the roads and surrounded all the cities.
ukraine doesn't have the forces to hold the country only to hold some cities and provide an insurrgency for the long run.

Russia never wanted to fight for Ukraine. They hoped to scare them into submission. The Russians look inept. Will they win? They damn well should. But the limited access to western weapons and training has allowed a much smaller force to inflict a lot of pain. Likely they have already lost more people and equipment than the us did during the entirety of the Iraq invasion and years of insurgency.
And by being forced to resort to more brutal force they force they are increasingly becoming an international pariah. Their own people are pissed and I suspect the Russian military is none too pleased. This has been a disaster for Russia.

Lord No... This isn't even the beginning of the army.
Russian army once defeated Hitler in great Patriotic war. Now Russian Army is Hitler.

Either Ukraine has an excellent propaganda or the Russians have made some really bad mistakes.
Reports that the Russians expected Ukrainians to flee like the Afghan government. Instead, they stood and fought.
There are credible reports of machines breaking down, troop desertion, heavy casualties, heavy equipment loss, etc.
It's still highly likely the Russians take over Ukraine. But they face a long and brutal insurgency, equipment shortages, a damaged economy and a lot of uncertainty.

From everything we’ve always been told of led to believe about the Russia military it almost appears to just be going through the motions. You get the sence they are winning against an overmatched opponent but it’s sloppy and indecisive. Ukraine for its part has put up a spirited fight but I just don’t see an overall strategy from them.

Yea they are letting the hundreds of thousands of people evacuate to decrease the innocent deaths. If they havent moved in another 7 days then there will be a problem.

They supposedly blocked the city. They're moving 2-4 miles per day.
At this rate Ukraine will reach Moscow before the "convoy" reaches Kyiv.

Russia will not take all of Ukraine. They will take everything east of the Dnieper.

What I want to know.. why aren't the Ukrainians out there with dynamite and dozers, bringing down the hills over the road in front of the russian convoy? and behind it?

Its a slow squeeze. You will know when they give full effort.. they will shell that city to the ground. After the people have been given a chance to leave. They hope to save as much as infrastructure as possible. But if they need to they will level it. Until their demands are met.

Take it FWIW, but here's an analysis that Vox Day reposted today on his blog:

Why do you say that? They launched attacks all the way into western Ukraine last night. Why are they settling for half the territory after the cost we placed on the invasion for them.

In general, Russia shouldn’t be having this much trouble given that they already control Belarus and the eastern puppet provinces and their home country is just over the border.
From a US perspective, this would be like Texas being unable to invade Arkansas despite having Oklahoma and the southwest portion of the state already under their control.
