I give them the keys immediately and let them know they're in charge and I'm not trying to be some kind of hero.

But as mentioned above, I'd have already left whatever shite town this regularly happens in.

I will let them have my car. But in an ironic twist, I will then steal the car behind me… because I have places to be.

Preventative - drive a stick with no shift pattern on the knob/handle.
Pop it in reverse when stopped.

1. Get out and hand them my fob.
2. Let them get about a block away.
3. Call the cops.
4. Pull up my Uconnect app to show the cops the exact location of my truck.
5. ???
6. Profit

If your life is no longer in danger you lose some legal recourse to shoot

You'd be the one going to jail and the carjacker would be canonized.

Not many states allow deadly force for protecting property anymore.

Scenario # 2 is a nightmare. You have a gun but your baby is strapped into a carseat in the back. Do you risk the danger of a gunfight and bullets flying? Do you risk letting criminals race off with your kid?

Problem is, giving the keys…there’s still no guarantee you don’t get shot…These are animals

Exactly why I stay in the car no matter what. If they have a desire to shoot they will. Keep the high ground in your car.

Especially if my kids are with me. Odds are better.

With that being said, glad I don't live there anymore- and although I live in shreveport now, pretty easy to avoid the hoods here

Other problem is if you kill one of these feral youth then you’ll have to contend with their posse after the fact who will target you & your family for taking one of their people out.

no it isn't if you give them the keys there is a chance you still get killed.

if you shoot them first and worry about the consequences later you have no chance of being killed.

Get out and hand them my keys. There is a time to fight but that's not it. I'm not getting killed over a vehicle.

I find myself lately just whipping around any car that seems to slow down in front of me for any apparent reason.

Additionally, the “jogger’s” family would file civil suit and take everything you own…they would bankrupt your family while you sit in jail.

This is a good topic to bring-up, because it makes folks here think about what they would do and can help them actually be prepared. The discussion and thought process may actually save a life.

Obviously, the strategy should include tactics to not put yourself in the situation, but you can be car-jacked anywhere...suburban parking lot, etc.
If it happens, the strategy is to do whatever it takes to stay alive. If a crazed, likely under-the-influence person with nothing to lose, has a gun pointed at your head, you won't be able to fire first...I suggest calmly opening the door and walking a few steps away, then running in a zigzag pattern to the nearest open business or group of people.

If your family is in the car, have them prepared to exit through the passenger side doors immediately and run away in that direction...as soon as they are out, then you exit and run behind them. Let your car go.

The scariest to me is when children are in car seats, because you need to buy a little time.
