Mine will always be the Sega Master System. Sega didn't have the licensing chops Nintendo had in the 8-bit days, but they churned out some pretty damn good games. The hardware was clearly superior to the NES.

I had Sega MS as my first system . It had some fantastic original games and a few fairly decent (for its time) arcade ports.
The Atari Lynx is the only somewhat obscure system I've own ed. It was an amazing portable 16 bit system that blew away the Gameboy and Gamegear as far as specs. Unfortunately most of its library was arcade ports and ports of older games. They were really awesome ports that played and looked great but not much exclusive content.
The Playstation Vita is another system that not many people owned but was another fantastic portable. Its was my go to when my kids were infants and I only had small increments of time to play games. Its a shame Sony didn't support it after a couple of years.

Oh man, that 32x/Sega CD combo gets blasted by just about every Youtube gaming channel out there, but that was some serious future technology for a gaming console.
You had to be there

The Vita is awesome - has tons of its own games and you there’s a program that lets you play PSP roms without jail breaking.

Would have killed for one of these, until I was at a Sears and actually looked through it

Was about to post this as well. I think I knew one other person that had one back then. It's currently hooked up to the PVM, but I don't think I've turned it on in 2-3 years at least.

The Sega Saturn.
It's basically a 32-bit Dreamcast.

Sega Dreamcast had one of the coolest, hardest games ever, called like Draconis or something
