If an update occurs with a go fund me link, this will be gold

I read all that. Nice comeback. Not only great for you but your kids too. Also, good luck and hope things work out well for you.

I'm speaking from general knowledge, not personal experience. I understand the program, and that fellow addicts will form a large part of your support system.

Well, I certainly didn't expect to see this this morning. It is great to hear how far you've come and that you have been able to claw out of that hole.
This place never ceases to amaze. It really can be a lifeline, or whatever the opposite of a lifeline is if warranted. I'm glad the folks here helped you, from the ones who donated, the ones who just listened, the ones who helped directly, and in a weird way even the ones who went digging (though, that part got a little carried away and into the weeds).
I don't know if it has been said yet, but the difference in your mindset is clear just by comparing your original posts to this one. Just reading this update post, it is clear you're coming from a much better place now. I hope you can stay there.
The road from here won't always be easy. It won't always be fun, the light won't always shine so bright. But some days it will. My hope for you is that those days will outnumber the bad and that you continue on this new path and come to enjoy your new life with your family and friends.
Congrats on surviving the struggle thus far!

How would Larry David respond to this post?

So if she wasn't conservative and not a fan of Trump, but still a good person, etc you would not have continued to communicate with her?
Im happy for the OP. Seems like a good guy who just took a wrong turn in life and is working to get back on track. I wish him the best and I hope he stays strong.

Here is another congratulation, CD. Your post may be the best I have seen on this site. I don't remember if I contributed to your cause or not but I did for several that came through here, and it makes me feel good to know that our contributions can do good. Speaking of which, does anyone know how things worked out for the LSU alum who donated a kidney to his daughter?
Also, though your identity was discovered, do not think that any of us remember who you were. To 99.9% here you are CD, an anonymous but worthy poster here again. So don't feel awkward going to the store thinking everyone who sees you there knows your personal story, although it has a positive ending.
As far as those insisting you denounce the Gumps, I don't care which college program you root for. That is insignificant in the grand scheme. We are all collective members of the same family of humanity.
Oh, and pics of daughters? You know the rules.

Glad to hear your "rock bottom" wasn't so far down that you couldn't recover (I have two family members whose bottom was the grave). Use your experiences to continually remind yourself of how far you've come and let that be an inspiration for how much farther you can go.

Awesome. I was just thinking of you the other day and glad to her things are looking up. Stay strong and in a recovery program. How are the kids?

Thanks for the update.
Many of us were wondering what happened next for you and your girls.
Congrats on making it through the hardest year of your life and coming out a better man and better father.
Sorry for your loss, glad you were able to swallow your pride and ask for help when you needed it so you could take care of her, and then take care of yourself.
Keep on trucking and pay it forward. You got this.

When you fully recover, you'll appreciate the reminders. Never understood the shame in overcoming addiction, it's damn near super human in modern society..

I remember the post about your wife’s passing and the aftermath. As a recovering alcoholic I felt terrible for you. Thank you for the update and I wish you well.
I’m almost 16 years sober and life isn’t always great but so much better than it was! Keep at it a day at a time!

If this is true then we should still applaud his efforts and creativity and give him all our monies and prayers. That was a long thought out short story and well written

Good to hear. Glad it is all working out. Now is a definitely a good time for someone who wants to start over, work their arse off and make something of fhemselves. Lots of work available out there. Best of luck in your future

I'm so happy for you man. I remember reading that original thread, and I did donate. After it turned to a shite show, I didn't request a refund, but I've wondered for a long while what was the verdict in that story, and ultimately what happened to you
I'm glad you have been able to get clean. I only regret you had to lose your wife in order to get the catalyst.

Happy to hear everything worked out for you in the end.
If I recall, you were living in/around the Gadsden area. I'm not far from there and have seen countless people get sucked into the abyss there. Good on you for getting out and getting a fresh start. But, as I'm sure you know, just because you start over in a new place, doesn't mean old problems from the old place can't pop up. It's how you choose to deal with things moving forward that will determine your success.
Good luck.
