It’s ridiculous.. average nfl career is 3.3 years

Marginal players going early to nfl is not a good decision. SO SICK AND TIRED OF THE LSU culture here “can’t blame the player. “ And that attitude is often expressed as a good business decision for the kid. Unless he is a first rounder it is never a good business decision.
The leave early supporters are right. It Is a business. I am sure Bama explains this well to the kids. Invest in yourself as a player. If you make NFL, your first contract is your most important.
3.3 years. Bring in some guys that went early and it didn’t work. There are plenty of them.
Get your degree. Build character. And do these two things for yourself. Flott should stay he could make millions by doing so. Add ten pounds and move up three rounds.

Much of what you say is true, but Flott isn't a marginal player, and barring injury, he'll have a nice NFL career. If I was advising him I'd tell him to go.

Look how cute down votes. People that don’t like reality or the truth.
Not sure why here of all places, a place to discuss lsu football.
You would think most people here are fans of the program.

Flott had a nice year. I’d definitely like to see him play one more year here and boost his stock.
However, all his coaches that recruited him and that he built a relationship with have left. I’d selfishly rather him go to the nfl than transfer to another SEC school.
At the end of the day, many life decisions are made based on the relationships you have with your superiors and peers. These relationships dictate when, where, and if people move on many times.

Every situation is different and sometimes I can’t fault players for leaving for the possibility of making money off their talent when they’ve only got a small window to do so. LSU needs to do a better job of locking in players that aren’t getting the best of NFL evals. Maybe that comes with NIL money. As for getting a degree, they can always come back and finish if they choose to do so. I wish the program put more of an emphasis on getting players to take business classes, but you can’t force them to do so.

Both of those are like buckets, one can only take out what one puts in. If they don't care about those two things.....

So if you're not really going to be a 2nd contract guy anyway, and you have a chance to make 600k for 3.3 years, that's $1.98m. fairly conservative estimate for someone on an active roster.
Say you make 200 for 2 more years on practice squads.
I'd say you have the time and money to complete a degree and a great start to pursue a career. You also have enough money to go after the jobs you WANT and not take any (unnecessary)shite on the way up.
F-you money is real, and 2.4m in the bank by 25years old is f-you money.

Unless you are a top 2 round pick, only position that really makes sense to leave and earn money while you can is RB due the lowest average career length.
Cornerbacks/WR aren't far behind. Flott could probably could have still improved his draft stock slightly by staying though.

Why do you think you get a say in when a player decides to go pro?
Posted on 1/4/22 at 7:52 am to BigDaddy5151
Players can make more in 3.3 years as a pro than most people will make in decades.

TDP fits this scenario....

3.3 years is a really short amount of time to make a ton of money.
That seems like an argument for leaving early not against it.

Even marginal players get life-changing money in 3.3 years. Most of these kids come from NOTHING, so a short stint in the NFL and a couple million in the bank is more than enough for them at a young age. That's a hell of a head start in life...making 20x's a normal salary in a couple years without having worked a regular job. Almost like winning the Lottery. They just need more guidance on how to manage that money long-term and not just spend it away.

Fans preaching that players are selfish for leaving so they can no longer entertain them is the most selfish thing in sports

Should just have a minor league system.
Most players careers don’t make it past their eligibility in college anyway.

probably longer than that for a first rounder

I'm still trying to wrap my head around Nakobe Dean(UGA LB, projected 1st round pick) graduating from UGA with a degree in Mechanical Engineering & a 3.5 GPA.

Flott is who he is at this point. Another year won’t improve his draft stock. He’s making the right decision
