Outside of the obvious, does anyone know anything about him? This is the hire that is a bit of a head scratcher for me, mostly because I have no idea who he is or what he brings to the table as a QB coach. His offenses at La Tech were always pretty good for a G5 school, just not sure what he has that translates.

His whole career revolves around Skip Holtz. Whatever that means.

Eta: and skip called the plays

Seems like a young guy who can probably recruit well in N LA? I don't know a lot about him myself. I think BK will be involved in QB development anyway so this may be an opportunity for him to grow as a coach but provide good recruiting? I think this was more of a recruiting hire with him handling QBs when BK is doing HC things. I could be wrong though. I'd like to see some more info on the guy if anyone has any.

Met him a few times on recruiting trips and sat through a presentation of his offensive breakdowns. Extremely bright and very personable. Was very excited when I saw the reports of him joining the staff.

Louisiana Tech fans seem to think it’s an excellent hire. Very bright guy and excellent recruiter.

It’s like Brian Kelly knows how to build a staff or something

I posted this in the thread last night

quote:

Sloan has spearheaded recruiting efforts for the Bulldogs over his eight years in Ruston, and boasted the number one recruiting class (2020) in Conference USA and the No. 4 ranked class among G5 programs according to Rivals.

That in no way means his hires are immune to criticism. He hired Brian Van Gorder who was terrible and had to be fired. Every hire should be looked at critically. The "he's done it in the past is enough" is the kind of thinking that get's you Orgeron hiring Pelini.

1 hire out how many?
He’s been a coach for 31 years
Even if he made 5 bad hires his track record is damn good

Where would Kelly be without you keeping him honest.

You think that's how we ended up with the string of bad hires??? Because people thought O hired good coaches before so he will do it again?

Well sure, but by the same token the criticism has to be looked at according to who is making it. If it is just some poster on a message board, it is unlikely to be given much weight.

It should be looked at critically but a bunch of couch coaches on an internet board aren’t exactly the most qualified to do so. The fact that you don’t understand the criteria behind the selection doesn’t mean Kelly doesn’t have good reasons for the coaches he has chosen. If he just made all the obvious choices, we could have kept O. In hindsight some choices may not work out, but none of us can know that now.

No clue why teams kept hiring Van Gorder. He’s a garbage coach haha

VG is now the DC at Gulf Shores HS. I believe the HC there is Hudspeth as well.

Okay! Thanks for weighting in! Certainly wouldn't want anyone to catch a positive vibe about anything going on with the football program during an exciting time for the fan base.
All we can be sure of is CBK has done it in the past.
