I was almost put in a VERY bad position tonight - Christmas Dinner Boogaloo

While having Christmas Eve dinner with my wife & kids, we hear 6 shots ring out right in front of our house. I immediately jump up and look out the front door to see a man at the corner of my yard under the streetlamp yelling obscenities and waving a gun around. He sees me on my front porch and immediately starts heading toward me with a hurried, pissed off walk.

I quickly went back in the house, locked the door, grabbed my Sig, had my family to get away from the dinner table (windows) and into a spot I could defend, killed the interior lights, and called 911.

We live in a rural part of a large rural county, so it took about 15 minutes for a deputy to arrive. The dispatcher called and asked that I disarm since the deputy was pulling up. She said he would speak with me when wrapping up, but he didn’t.

After they all left, I called dispatch and was connected with the officer.

It turns out that a young local kid hit a deer coming out of my yard and called his father for help. Before the dad arrived, a person pulled over and started yelling obscenities at the kid and passersby about how inhumane it was to let the deer suffer. That’s when he retrieved a handgun from his car and shot the deer several times in rapid order. Strangely enough, he gutshot the wounded deer. Then he stood around yelling more obscenities and waving around his gun before taking off. The kid got the idiot’s tag number, so hopefully the deputies can track him down.

This brings me to my scary moment.

What if this idiot had came to my front porch and started banging on the door? The only info I had at that moment was that a crazy man was cursing and shooting outside.

I’m afraid I would have had to shoot this man, which would most likely have changed all of our lives for the worse.

Scary how a dumbass decision can turn lives around so quickly.
