$50 limit each but would really prefer cheaper.

Tequila must be blanco. Will be used to make margaritas mainly.

Bourbon must be straight. Will be taken neat or on the rocks. Sipper but will have several glasses at a sitting.

I would stay in the $20-25 range for the tequila if it’s going to be used for margaritas, Arrette, Esponol, Altos, etc.

Could go anywhere with the bourbon, 4 roses single barrel, rare breed, eagle rare, and many more.

Ill throw out something slightly different on the Tequila front. Check out 21 seed, its flavored. They have a Jalapeno one (the other 2 are good too) that I really enjoy out the freezer and thought it might make a good Rita. When I make Ritas I will often add golden pepperoncini juice to add some spicy kick. The citrus one might do well too.

Lalo tequila if they sell it in your area. I know you can get it in TX.

Russell’s Reserve 10 year or plain ol’ Elijah Craig for the bourbon will do fine.

I know you said $50, but...

Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is $54.98 at Wal-Mart.

Also,

Old Forester Whiskey Row Series: 1910 is also $54.98 at Wal-mart.

Those are a slight step up to another level of bourbon buts it's only $5 over budget.

Agreed. The Woodford double Oaked is a really good buy. Sams usually has it for around $52

Why must it be a Blanco? We use espolon reposado for all our margaritas

Don’t spend $50 if it is just for margaritas. I like this one for ~$35

Wild Turkey Rare Breed is probably <$50 at Total Wine. Ditto for Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. Both are fantastic.

Gotcha then I would recommend the Blanco. $25 smooth and 100% agave

I love tequila but my research has told me this is overpriced for the quality of the tequila.

Should be the starting point for any tequila consideration. I have a theory that many people don't like tequila because they think Jose Cuervo is supposed to be decent tequila.

I would suggest maestro dobel blanco. Their reposado is fantastic. Tequila Ocho is good as well.

Espolon is fine but if this guy is into tequila it's very much an "entry level" option.
