NIL and Transfer Portal can’t coexist

College athletics either needs to do the NIL with strict transfer rules or let the transfer portal be the way it is without the NIL. The two together are going to drive college athletics off the deep end. We’re approaching the deep end at a very high rate.

Yeah the transfer portal sucks donkey dick. Shouldn't mess with NIL though. pay for play was happening already. Players shouldn't be punished for it

It was going on but It wasn't happening like this.

You need to shut down NIL a few years before the portal. That way those players that are stacked can get out and play immediately.

The Supreme Court of the United States says you can’t do this

Omg. Apples and Oranges. 99 percent of the athletes in the transfer portal will never see a penny of NIL money. Only a select few are really considered NIL worthy

The portal is fine. The immediate eligibility isn’t. There should be exceptions for graduate transfers or players with only 1 year remaining. No reason a starter should be able to transfer to another conference team and start the next year.

The NFL should remove the 3 yr post HS requirement so that players who are capable can go straight to the pros, and guys who go to college, are there cause they want to be.

The NFL is a different animal. There is no 18 yr old kid on earth ready to go from HS ball to the NFL.

We’re there already. Look at Ewers. Look at the All Americans at small schools transferring out immediately. Look at Max Johnson driving himself straight into the bottom of a stacked QB depth chart. It’s already a laughing stock.

You only get one free transfer dude. Chill out.

No. You either say all free transfers are bad or none are bad.

That's just not true. Secondly, not everyone that leaves HS is 18.

The problem is, right now, LSU needs the transfer portal with the attrition it has experienced recently.

Just cancel it as soon as we get players to transfer in.
Kidding.

I'd say anyone going to be a junior or senior that didn't start at least half of their previous season should be allowed to transfer. Allows guys stuck lower on depth charts the opportunity to transfer out for playing time before their eligibility expires whether that's to showcase for the NFL or otherwise.
Anyone transferring before needs to sit out a year.
It's absolutely stupid that All-American starters like Ricks would transfer going into their basically last year of football before the draft. It's a black eye on the current arrangement. The guy would have had less than a year at LSU before getting drafted. He'll have played 2 years at LSU and 1 year at Bama yet he'll rep Bama anytime when asked. What a joke.

i agree...there needs to be some type of cap on NIL Deals per year and or some type of regulations regarding NIL and Transfer rules...if it continues the way it is....Teams will have to recruit the entire team each year plus new incoming players

Only one? How many transfers does it take in your mind to lose a player you've invested years recruiting?

At some point we will see a player transfer DURING a game. He will change jerseys and line up on the other side of the line of scrimmage.
Perhaps then the folly of this predicament will be recognized.

NIL has the force of law, so there is very little that can be done via NCAA rules to eliminate or probably even significantly limit NIL. Reporting and the degree of school involvement may be the only thing they could really impact.
As for the portal, that isn't going anywhere either. The one time transfer immediate eligibility rule is not as bad as many seem to think and a lot of what you're seeing, in terms of numbers has more to do with the newness of the rule. All of this will settle out over the next couple of years.
I knew the TD was filled with snarky, often irreverent and sometime (I may be being kind) borish posters. What I failed to recognize is the vast number of skyscreamers that existed here. Did Orgeron do this too?
