Are there any corporations, goods, or services that could cease all advertising tomorrow and not take much of a hit in their bottom line or lose much market share?

Are Coca-Cola, McDonald's, Wal-Mart and their ilk so ingrained in our everyday lives that they could stop running ads and still rake-in billions every year?

I know these companies would never consider this strategy, but could anyone pull this off?

In a word, no

Sure, but there's a big difference between $50 billion and $20 billion

Consider “Word-of-Mouth” to be a disease and smartly, don’t rely on its whimsy.

Frito Lay doesn't advertise Funyuns.

The marketing budget is zero.

I always wondered why BASF bothered advertising to the mass market. "We don't make the products you use. We make the products you use better." How is that useful to me, the consumer? Am I supposed to research the manufacturing process of my favorite brands to make sure BASF is involved in some way?

Blue bell. Their ice cream killed people and no one gave a shite and asked for more.

I read somewhere that most advertising is not designed to win over new customers, but more designed to reinforce buying habits of established customers. I have no idea if that's true or if it relates at all to your question, but I thought it was an interesting lens through which to view ads.

You've got a point, here. I've lived nearly a half-century and have never seen a Funyuns ad.

Pfizer, Moderna & J&J aren’t running ads
Instead our tax dollars are paying for generic vaccine advertisements

Ferarri has famously avoided any traditional advertising. Their participation in motorsport has been their primary means of "advertising". That being said for much of its existence it was a company that built cars to finance racing vs the other way round like every other major car company.

Definitely for well established products like Coca-Cola.

You see a Coke ad and think "I could go for a Coke right now." Then you take one out of the fridge and drink it, and you have to replenish your supply that much sooner. Multiply that by the millions of other people who do the same thing.
