I was sitting in my homemade box blind years ago, almost dozing off, when a hickory nut fell from the tree above and landed onto the metal roof. That will wake you up!

I was riding my horse, by myself, down some little traveled country roads. There's some land that is full of brush and trees and is unfenced. At the time, we would ride through the property. There was a lot of locust (with the huge thorns) and no real trails, so you have to work your way through.
I find a pathway and I come out in a small clearing - there's a fairly decent size pot patch. I'm thinking traps or someone with a gun nearby so I got the hell out of there. I've never been back.

About 5-6 years ago I made a hunt at my lease one afternoon during the week. I was by myself, and hunted until dark without seeing anything. I walk out without a light most times and began the few hundred yard walk back to my four wheeler. I had an empty rice bran bag in one hand and my gun on my shoulder walking down my little trail and turned onto a little bigger atv road that we have heading to my bike. When I turned the corner and walked a few steps, I could see something right in front of me that was much larger than I was with eyes almost glowing. This "thing" was making some god awful growling/grunting noises and scared the shite out of me because I didn't have a clue what it was and no light in my hand to see! All I could do as I was face to face with this thing was shake the rice bran bag and yell! After it basically growling/grunting/whatever other noises came out of its mouth, it didn't run off like I'd hoped. I pulled my 444 off my shoulder and began cocking the hammer as I was going to shoot it from the hip....scared shiteless, I calmed myself as much as I could before I shot and kept one eye on it and pulled my phone out of my pocket and clicked on the flashlight. At that time I finally could see the beast that was about to take my life! A HORSE that somehow got out of someone's pen down the road and was walking my trail. Apparently when I came around the corner, we met face to face and scared the shite out of each other. Thought i was going to die that day but turned into a good story nonetheless. FYI, I normally at least have my light on my head now when I walk out in case this happens again.

Yep. I'd be digging a big fricking hole to bury that horse.

Hunting in Southern Indiana. Walked up on about forty possums in a huge sinkhole area. They were just milling around like they were drunk.

Where to start. Most recent shite, I am walking out in dark after typical unsuccessful hunt in st stephen’s area of bama. I suddenly feel uneasy, like I am being watched or tracked. I stop completely abs kneel down and put my hand on my pistol. (We have tons of bear and biggest bobcats known to man) I don’t hear or see anything and start scanning the trees. Then right at tree tops of cluster of long pines i see these lights. Kinda hard to describe but almost like mini high powered flashlight reflecting in the trees, but smaller and brighter. I watched them for a few minutes, about half a dozen of them about 100-150 up, bouncing around. But no beams nothing. I just couldn’t figure it out then realized they were self generated lights like giant fireflies and they were on this side of the tree facing me so no way could be flashlights etc, and it’s barely 40 degrees and January no bugs.
I suddenly remembered that they are kinda sitting over some old old graves of some sort abs decided to get the hell out of there. I got to my truck almost under the lights loaded up very carefully and with careful attention to not look up at the lights drove about away. i stopped at sign out board about 500 yards away and looked back they were still there. I still have no clue wtf they were, didn’t seem threatening but definitely got my attention

Somebody shot a limit of ducks in southeast Louisiana and that's about as strange a thing as I've heard down here in a while.

12yr old or so hunting behind an ol church with a graveyard that supposedly had a “hanging” tree for slaves at least that’s what they told all the kids at the time. Well one evening after dark waiting to be picked up I hear the proverbial “woman screaming like she’s on fire” not sure if it was a bobcat or a panther or a lion. All I know is I stood guard with my gun in the ready position flagging my barrel at every single leaf crunch for a half hour.
20yr old siting onna stand and fighting falling asleep at about 3 in the evening and I turn to see a freaking emu walking across the food plot at about 200 yards. Was afraid to even tell anyone cus I thought they would think I was nuts.
One time climbed up a tree in a loc on and got settled and heard some scratches above me looked up and shined my light and about then a 75pound Coon or so it seemed in the dark came down the same tree I was in on the back side. That will get a heart rate amped at 545 in the morning.
To many ghost goblins and what looked like things moving right at daylight to mention, it’s amazing how your eyes can play tricks on you in the dark.

Not really the theme but I was bow hunting on a refuge and got down at dark. The trail I walked in on Had a big briar and vine thicket and I had my stand on my back. I had to get on my hands and knees and crawl through it and about the time I got through it this huge flash of light went off and I thought I had died.
Someone had a trail cam set right there and it went off right in my face. I would love to have seen that picture

Same refuge we were duck hunting and were in about waist deep water in the woods and the fox squirrels started showing up. Buddy shot one and the others didn’t move. Matter of fact they would come closer. More came to us and before you know it i had like 8 big arse fox squirrels One came down the tree to the waters edge and was just looking at me. I walked over there and knocked it off the tree into the water with my gun barrel. It was the strangest thing.

My first full season hunting as a kid was quite the shite show.
I fell asleep in my ladder stand and woke up to an owl sitting on the branch right by my head. Scared me, I scared it, it sort of "attacked" me on the way off. Got a couple wings to the face.
Had an emu come into my food plot once time.
Place was full of hogs and for some reason I was crazy scared of them. Well my dad decided it would be a good idea to hide in the bushes along my trail and jump out making hog noises.
If it was gun season I would probably be a bastard.

Years ago I was camping/bowhunting alone on some property that I had leased in the middle of nowhere. Late in the night I stepped out of my tent to add a log to the campfire - I had a .45 in my hand because I was a little creeped out.
Looking around beyond the firelight I see a guy standing next to a tree just staring at me. I kid you not, he looked like the hillbilly from the movie "Deliverance". The first words out of my mouth were a very loud WTF, and I raised my .45 and pointed it right at him. He stood there for a few seconds and then turned around and walked off.
I found out later he lived in the area and was known to walk the woods alone at night.
I'm assuming you didn't close your eyes that night? I'd probably packed up and left.

Years ago bow hunting in Illinois for the 1st time. I was in a climber looking at a couple of does making their way towards me, hoping I could get a shot before dark as the sun was falling fast. All of a sudden they took off wide open in all different directions. Thinking I somehow spooked them, I climbed down and put my climber and bow on my back and started walking out. All of a sudden I hear a bunch of coyotes howling all around me. Knowing there was a ladder stand 100 yards from me, I thought about running to it. Just stood there scared to death thinking I'm dinner. They stopped howling and I went to the ladder stand and just sat there until I saw the light of another hunter coming to get me.

I was coon hunting once in southwestern Mississippi with a man named John ,ole brummy treed a great biggun, Mr. John decided to climb the tree to jab the coon with a sharp stick , but it weren’t no coon. That thing was eating John up.

On another bowhunt, I was walking in very quietly to my climbing stand and as I approached the tree it was on, I could see something on the ground just below the stand. I was about 20 yards from it when I first saw it and as I slowly approached it, it appeared to be a coat or another piece of clothing someone had dropped.
My first thought was to be really pissed that someone had been to my stand, but when I was about 20 ft. away, the abandoned coat jumped up and ran straight at and over me. I am a big, powerful guy but the coat knocked me back like a Leonard Fournette truck.
It was a big buck.
