The GA gator story got me interested in the strangest thing people have seen or heard in the woods. I personally haven't had any crazy experiences. After saying this, I'm sure this weekend I'll see some Blair Witch crap walking out.

The first time I was in the woods at night and saw foxfire (bioluminescent fungi) it freaked me out bigly...

I hunted an old Indian mound in the middle of the marsh. Had massive oaks all over it. Didn’t even hear a bird chirping and felt like I was being watched the whole time. Was one of the worst walks back to the boat in the dark I ever experienced. Never hunted that spot again.

Does anyone else agree a doe “barking” at something sounds like an evil spirit?

1. The shrub I've seen 500x that evening morph into a nice buck 15 min, 10 min, 5 min before legal shooting ends

2. Covey of quail flushing from literally under my boot step at 4 am in the pitch black dead cold morning walking in without a head light

3. Dark of night bobcat "growl/screech" sounded like how I'd imagine a 6 year old girl would sound being killed

I agree but they will bark and stomp at anything. I’ve had them pick up my scent or see me coming from an unexpected area and bark or blow at me and the other deer completely ignore them. I watched a doe and squirrel cuss each other out a couple years ago, damn doe got scared shitless

Yeah same, but most times that bitch is 100 yds behind me downwind just barking her arse off like a junkyard dog.

Nothing too crazy. Walked out to box blind for a morning hunt on a full moon. Went to open the windows and saw what I thought was a ghostly floating orb with a face.

It ended up being a possum on a tree limb about 10’ from the blind hanging over the shooting lane. The way the full moon hit the possum, I could just see the pink reflective eyes and white face. Scared the shite out of me

I was in a climber in the late 80s...kept hearing a little rustling the leaves. Couldnt find it, couldnt figure out what was going on.

Then I saw it, direcly beneath my tree was a rattle snake moving along thru the woods. After seeing it for about 5 minutes I lost him. Climbing down as a bit unnerving and I took a wide circle the opposite way he was heading to get out of there.

Nothing too crazy. Turkey hunting in south Texas a few years ago trying to catch them going to the roost. 10 minutes before I decide to leave I look up and see a big porcupine in a tree some 15 yards from me. He was just hunched over. Didn't scare me but it had a creepy/eery look to him at first (i'd never seen one before). Legit thought it was a monkey or some creature until it moved after 30 minutes.

I've heard the normal random wtf is that kind of sounds that we all hear in the woods. That being said i'm a firm believer there are things in the woods that aren't meant to be found.

Some big, nutty hound type dog running mad in circles for 200 yards around where I was in a tree. At first I didn't see it, I just heard what was not a normal bark at all. I was debating sasquatch or possessed bear until he tore into sight. Ran around for probably 5 minutes, spooked a coyote out, then left.

Found a dead deer that had been gut shot a day or two earlier. When we were getting close to it, it was obvious there was something weird going on as we could see it moving slightly. My buddy kicked it to see if it was still alive and an armadillo came crawling out of it's exit wound. I had assumed maybe a coon or opossum would do something like that but was weird to see an armadillo.

was looking for a small cave in new mexico and smelled something dead. Found a mountain lion with it's side slashed open. Noped out of there pretty quick.

Years ago I was camping/bowhunting alone on some property that I had leased in the middle of nowhere. Late in the night I stepped out of my tent to add a log to the campfire - I had a .45 in my hand because I was a little creeped out.

Looking around beyond the firelight I see a guy standing next to a tree just staring at me. I kid you not, he looked like the hillbilly from the movie "Deliverance". The first words out of my mouth were a very loud WTF, and I raised my .45 and pointed it right at him. He stood there for a few seconds and then turned around and walked off.

I found out later he lived in the area and was known to walk the woods alone at night.

I pulled off the highway on a dim road for an afternoon hunt at our club. This road was rarely used, but there were fresh tire tracks that day. Laying in the road was what was left of a Popeyes lunch, a pay check stub from a construction company, a pair of jeans, and Dingo boots. Something didn’t seem right, but I hunted anyway. After dark, my hunting buddy met me at the truck. It was his birthday and he tried the boots on. He had a birthday present. We talked to his paw in law that night, who in turn, called the sheriffs investigator. They gathered all of it up, Dingo boots included, as evidence. A man had been cut ear to ear in Florida. The suspect fled to Mississippi to get his paycheck and had been on the run. He’d been arrested south of where I found the evidence. Our paths missed by no more than two hours. Maybe a lot less.
