COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The parents of a ninth grade South Carolina student who said she was accosted by a teacher for walking to class instead of stopping and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance are suing the teacher, principal, school district and state education officials.
Marissa Barnwell said she was walking quietly to class and decided not to stop for the pledge or a moment of silence that followed. A teacher yelled at her, confronted her and pushed her against a wall.
Barnwell was then sent to the principal's office, which she said was humiliating because she feared she was in trouble. The principal sent her back to class, but Barnwell said he never let her know that the teacher was wrong and she was right.
“I was completely and utterly disrespected,” Barnwell, 15, said at a news conference Thursday, according to The State newspaper. “No one has apologized, no one has acknowledged my hurt. ... The fact that the school is defending that kind of behavior is unimaginable.”
Barnwell's parents are suing the River Bluff High School teacher, the principal, Lexington School District 1, and the South Carolina Education Department in federal court, saying they violated the girl's civil rights and her First Amendment rights to both free speech or not to speak at all.

Why stop there? Sue the entire world if your gonna feign “unimaginable suffering” to try and get a pay day.
This is absurd.

To be fair, that was a dumb decision by the teacher.

Man, I just don't give a fk about people's feelings AT ALL anymore. I am happier by the day to see people "hurt" or "offended."

I wonder what’s the teacher’s TD handle.

You honestly believe that's what happened?

Wonder if they have cameras in that school

Did she start shooting?

I believe it's certainly possible.
I never participated in the pledge during high school. Never was a big deal until I moved back to Bama. Had a teacher who was super pissed about it and eventually wrote me up for it. She had to wait to write me up for something mundane and then add in parenthesis "also doesn't stand for the pledge". I never was distracting, or prevented any one else's speech and would just sit there silently, intentionally to not disrupt any one else's choice. I got into the adminsitarors office and asked him if he really wanted the headache that all this was gonna cause. He let me go and threw away the write up.
So I literally had several confrontations about it despite never acting inappropriately in any way.

I’m sure they will release the video if the teacher is shoving a kid up against the wall.

What decision exactly? The one the student made up for her parents and lawyer?

I’m calling BS. Unless there is video of this then it didn’t happen.

You know who did this in my home room? The girl from Korea. She would just sit silently getting a free education off the backs of Americans.
She owes what ever college she went to and whatever job she got after that to what that flag symbolizes.

"Looking for a payday" it appears to me. Taking a spin on the litigation wheel and hope for a settlement.

“frick y’all’s racist flag” - if she were honest.
