Homestead Ave. Metry, LA 1980something house explosion

House around the corner from where I grew up went kaboom one day.
Turned out to be a water heater pilot light that went out while the family was on vacation. Filled the 1st floor with gas and ignited off the lit pilot on the furnace in the attic. Intital gossip was the gigantic propane tank in front of Graham's hardware had blown up.
Our backyard was pretty well littered with exploded clothing, furniture cushions and roof shingles. My brothers and I picked all the crap in our yard up while dad drank an Old Milwaukee and supervised.
Who remembers when this happened?
Same block as Villerie's Florist where they would fill their parking lot with shaved ice around Christmas so all us little dago children could have snowball fights.

Not old metairie, so I don't recall.

The FB group for this area is mostly filled with angry ignorant old timers bitching constantly over and over about the Bonnabel walking path that is under construction.

Yes, but what about the lack of Christmas lights and the invasion of coyotes.

The Old Metaire folks would just bitch and complain about how many bulbs were not working if the lights were put up. LOL

Which is why I think they didn't hang them all this year.

Ugh, I hate that shite. 90% of near-suburb bike/pedestrian features are just bullshite.
Decatur, GA just re-did Columbia Drive such that it has like 8' wide sidewalks, but no longer has left turn lanes nor any extra room for larger vehicles.
I don't get it. That street already had sidewalks. Anyone who really wanted to walk was able to do so.
It kind of reminds me of traffic circles. I don't completely hate them like I do giant 8' sidewalks, but in both cases there's this heavy-handed attitude of building shite for the (more European) world that white people *think* they want to live in instead of building for where and when we actually do live.

Wait people don’t like the walking path?
I only get my updates from Old Metairie happenings when my wife shares them. I need to see what she has to say about the drama.
