Civil Rights groups aren’t happy about Philadelphia banning the use of ski masks

The Philadelphia City Council passed a bill Thursday that bans the use of ski masks in parks, schools, public transit or other city-owned buildings, a move they say will help law enforcement solve crimes but that civil rights advocates believe will criminalize people of color.

But council members who voted against the bill criticized it because it “criminalizes and marginalizes young Black men,” said council member Jamie Gauthier on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“I cannot in good conscience vote to further criminalize Black and brown young people in our city,” council member Kendra Brooks, who also voted against the bill, said on X.

American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania, says banning ski masks will not decrease crime in the city. Instead, he says, the measure will endanger innocent people of color who sometimes wear face coverings like ski masks.
“All this ordinance does is criminalize poverty and disproportionately target young men of color,” Worlds told CNN. “If the city council was serious about curbing crime they would spend time and money on mental health crises in the city, housing in the city, child care in the city so single parents could work more, after school programs, education, things like that. These are things that could actually deter criminal activity.”

What normal law abiding person wears a fricking ski mask around?
and I'll add: I work (and lived a long time) in a town that is 80% black. All the stores, even if black owned or managed, have "no hoodies" signs. I sure as hell have never seen some "black or brown" person running around with a ski mask on (even when it is cold as hell).
These so called civil rights leaders are shite. Battling over the right to wear a ski mask indoors OR sag your pants does not exactly uplift your race.

Ah yes, the trials and tribulations of a multi-cultural low-trust society.
Another government program that attempts to fill in the gap for broken families.

I feel like taking this position is kind of a low key admission that you actually believe these groups frequently engage in criminal activity

Which makes them the racists, if the observation wasn’t statistically correct.

"I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves will be able to wear a ski mask indoors or on a city bus."

I understand being against it as the government shouldn't control what we wear, but it's fricking comical to argue this is a black thing.

That’s not ski masks, that’s their own actions.

I’ll withhold judgement until Jason Kelce weighs in.

But I thought masks saved lives. That's what we've been told for the last few years.
