Not sure if this is a Money Board, Outdoor Board, Home and Garden Board, or OT but here we are.
Own about 26 acres of land. Mostly hilly terrain. Thinking of buying a few goats to help keep the over growth controlled as well as reap the tax benefits. Don’t know shite about goats. Will I still have to feed them? What about predators? What type of fence? How many goats per acre? Any money in it besides tax benefits?

You need to talk to Aspy. She's the expert goat herdsperson.

if you don’t already have a really good fence then this will be expensive, depending on much area you fence. They can just about survive unattended but you’ll need steady fresh water, a decent roof or enclosure and a really good fence

They let you grab them by the teets.

If not her, is that DKE guy around? I heard he knows a thing or two about goats that the average Joe doesn’t.

Sheep > goats. Goats will fight you.

I fed mine some goat feed once a day, not much at all. A goat fence, but they are clever at finding a way out and stupid enough to get stuck and die. I never worried about predators because I had two Pyrenees.

Grandfather had many goats and they were always gettin' stuck in the fence.

Depends on what part of the country you in? If you in Tenn/bama country i'd worry more about the local hillbillies than the coyotes.

I had goats on the last farm. They are terrific for eating brush and are also escape artists no matter how good you are at fencing. They will also use your vehicles as jungle gyms; especially the new ones.
Good luck!
Good luck!

They are escape artists for sure, so a solid fence is an absolute must. Some of them can be real assholes, especially to children, so if you have any little ones in your family, make sure they can't get too close.

Talk to your local cooperative extension service office. Free advice and information, and they can probably put you in touch with other goat folks in your area.

if you put one facing the edge of a cliff it'll push back against you. Hope that helps.
