Hospital visitors when baby is born

Family member shucked a child today and I was asked to attend my Mrs Gee.
I noticed some differences between my last child 9 years ago and today. The glass viewing area is now closed off and the waiting area is trimmed down quite a bit. No tables and fewer chairs. Also, there’s a mandatory waiting period of several hours after birth before anyone is allowed to visit. Apparently this is to allow the mother “skin to skin” time. I personally think this hospital is intentionally doing these things to reduce visitor traffic. I personally like the idea. I have no idea why people show up in mass and stress out the parents and baby.
What’s you baws opinion on the matter?
ETA: We got 6 dozen hot glazed donuts and three dozen went to hospital staff. I know how much the visitors tax them and the crowd today was huge.

As you show up to stress out the parents and baby
Tell your wife to relax. Wait a couple of days and visit them at their house when they’re ready. Her Facebook pictures can wait

New Normal. Lots of hospitals still limiting visitors.

The woman just pushed a human out of her vagina. Give her some fricking space.

Skin to skin contact after is common these days. Was preached big time when we had ours.
Up to the mother on how soon afterwards to have visitors but for us it was strictly immediate family only for the first several days of not weeks. If you’re just showing up unannounced, that would not be cool

I try to generally give people space when they pop out another human until they’re ready to be social/see folks. Typically once they’re already home and settled.

I never visit anyone unless specifically requested.

Should be only mother, father and newborn for at least the first 8 hours (longer if mother has a c-section, especially if it’s a repeat c-section). My wife birthed our 4 children via c-section, and between the pain, nausea, trying to get the baby to latch, and just exhaustion from the whole ordeal, the last thing she wanted was to have any more company in the room. You have nurses and ancillary staff coming in frequent to check on mother and baby. It’s tiresome.
I think it’s important that grandparents and immediate siblings should see the baby on Day 1, but only for a short time. There will be plenty of time when mother and baby go home for other family members to visit.

Same day? Unless you were there for the conception, you got no business being there unless specifically requested.

I'll come check your baby out when he can hit a curveball

Ours was in the NICU about 3 years ago pre covid and I can remember vividly wishing people would just go away for a few hours so we could get some rest.

It would always be a madhouse in hospitals labor and delivery. Some families would invite all 10 kids, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends etc. it was way too many people there and it would tax the workers and hospital resources. Plus there would routinely be fights and altercations The last few years (even before Covid) they really cut down on all that and it’s all for the better.
Everyone can just wait and meet the baby when it gets home.

En masse. The phrase you’re looking for is en masse.

We put up a no visitors sign on our door.

Give them at least a week after they’ve gone home from hospital, imo

My in-laws practically camped out from the time we got to the hospital until after delivery on all 3 of our kids. Hated that crap.

I'm all for hospitals shutting down the clown show that happens in labor and delivery. It's bad enough with 15 different doctors/lactation nurses and staff barging in at all hours of the day and night without Uncle Geralds third cousins wife inviting herself in with her phone camera trying to take nursing pictures for her Facebook.

Had 2nd baby during covid. 0 visitors the entire time. It was GLORIOUS!

Yep. Covid delivery experience was tops. No visitors period and it’s not us who are the bad guys.
