What’s the obsession with single basin kitchen sinks in new construction and remodeling?

How can you rinse your dishes if you have to wash them, and where do you defrost shite?
First world problem of the day.

That’s why I bought a dishwasher.

I’ve never said to myself that I needed a second wash basin to do this.

You only use half the water with a single sink.

People who fill half the sink with water and shove dirty dishes in it repeatedly are insane. I don’t want my hands in that nasty arse water
Proper pre rinse protocol is to let the water run, then scrub your dish under the running water, then put it in the dishwasher
And defrost shite in a separate large mixing bowl. I don’t want food I’m about to eat in a dirty sink

Personal preference for me. I have a single basin because I got tired of large pans and things not fitting after a cookout or something. I also like to soak casserole dishes with baked on food. We have some big casserole dishes. I feel like anything you want to do can be done in a large single basin but if you want to soak something large there’s no way to do that in a double.

Sadly...many probably believe this.

Do you not use sheet pans, large Dutch ovens, etc? Double sink makes cleaning them almost impossible.

Agreed. Split sinks can’t handle large pots or dishes

This. I will never have a split sink again.

And you use less gas driving at 100mph.

Sometimes there's not enough to run the dishwasher.
You have more options with two basins.

Washed a pretty damn big Magnelite in ours yesterday, granted…it’s not our biggest (gumbo) one.

Beats me. Just give me a two sink stainless number, no need to get all swanky.

people changing shite just to be changing shite

This actually isn’t proper protocol according to dishwasher and dish detergent manufacturers.

Dishes shouldn’t be rinsed clean first because the dish detergent needs food bits to stick and work.
