Is there really that big of a difference in quality from a $37 Rain X wiper to a $10 RainGuard wiper.

Longevity. I buy middle of the road ones.

Lowest level Bosch. Have them on auto order through Amazon every 6 months.

Wipers are for pussies. Stick your head out the window like a man.

I haven't found any brand that lasts longer than 6 months before they start streaking.

Nope. I bought some $8 Michelin wipers at WalMart and those are lasting longer than the others.

All blades will start streaking after 6 months. Where the newer single-piece blades shine is that you can clean them a few times before falling apart. The older metal ones had pressure points that would eventually run through the rubber blade. Newer designs protect the blade and increase longevity.
I run the premium Bosch wipers and clean the blade with glass cleaner and a towel every 5-6 months. They won’t move water like brand new but easily get the job done for about 1-1.5 years.

Buy any, with a piece of 2' long, 1" PVC, with two endcaps. Once a month, put your blades into the PVC with a shot glass of Armorall. Cap it, then shake it.
Remove blades, dry off excess, and replace blades. Cap off PVC to save remaining Armorall until next month.

I've found it is a crap shoot, even with the expensive models.

Try the piaa silicone blades on Amazon

It seems like every time I buy wiper blades, whether expensive or cheap, they suck. The ones I have now do alright if it is raining pretty good, but if it's a light rain or drizzle, that drag across my windshield to the point that they are almost skipping.

Wiper blades used to last a good 10 years, now they are shite.

beam wipers are better than than the ones with the little arms. they're only a couple bucks more expensive.

I can say in Arizona, the expensive ones last about a month longer than the cheap ones.

I used to swear by Rain-X blades. Mostly because they essentially treat your windshield with Rain-X. But know that I have a black car I run it through the wash a couple times a week. The was applies the water repellant and beats the crap out of wipers so I go cheap now.

I know Auto manufacturers don't make their own blades...but maybe they spec them, or at least prescribe "expensive" wipers.
But my anecdotal experience is that OEM blades are generally better.
It's a real crap shoot when you get it from Autozone.

Project Farm: Wiper Blades (YouTube)
He test several brands for an entire year.
ETA: At higher speeds with lighter rain it doesn’t really matter as long as you stay away from the cheapest, but with heavy rains and at slower speeds the Bosh Icon was the winner.

OEM blades probably last longer because the windshield is new and free from chips and embedded grit.
Using a clay bar on glass does a great job at removing grit on glass.
