College football rankings are dicey in the best of times. Not enough interconference matchups. Too many illegitimate games.

quote:

I rank teams based solely on what they’ve done this season. Who did you play? Where did you play? How did you do?

I don’t project. I don’t predict. I try to not base anything on previous season results.

quote:

1. Louisiana-Lafayette 1-0: Why the Ragin’ Cajuns No. 1? We’re basically one week and change into the season, and ULL has the best win, 31-14 at Iowa State. I don’t know if that will hold up as a great win. If the Cyclones drop off a 3-6 in the Big 12, excitement lessens. But if Iowa State goes 6-3 in the Big 12, the Cajuns’ pride can soar.

I don't think anyone, including the writer, is taking this seriously enough to warrant any sort of serious response.

But there will probably be some angry people over this. Like that one guy from Opelousas who always makes comments about affliction t-shirts.

Right. Some welders on Highway 90 who watch LSU road games at Walk-Ons are about to be very perturbed.

This is the correct way to do it in theory.

The only issue with that is how does he know they had the best win? That's the conundrum. His idea is correct but inherently flawed because you basically have to have a starting point that predicts who is good/bad in week 1.

Yeah I'd much rather have the biggest win in school history come in week 1 of a pandemic season than have a trophy that hasn't even had time to collect dust yet.

Imagine if they had to vacate this one day, as they are known to have to do

Do Cajuns get bumped out of rankings now that Big10 schools will be ranked?

Asking for a Tech fan.

What school is he talking about? Last I checked there isn't a school named "Louisiana" playing in D1.

He said Ragin Cajuns so I assume he is talking about ULaLa.

This is the main reason it's dumb as frick there are only 4 playoff slots. There is no way in hell to truly tell who is the best b/c there are so many damn teams and all of them have ton of roster turnover each year.

All conference winners plus a few wildcards fixes that but the P5s are too damn greedy for the rational approach to be taken. Every single other level of football does it that way. There is no legitimate reason FBS can't do it too.
