I understand you want to develop players, but Crews and Skenes strike me as about ready made as they get. Starting them both off in rookie ball for a day just seemed like a waste.

Actual play aside, there’s a period of time needed to acclimate someone into being a pro. You let them learn the process off to the side where they don’t get shell shocked and don’t frick with the vibe and routine of the team. Once they get the routine down, they get promoted if they’re good enough, which I think both of our guys are.

Not to mention:

A - the baseball season is nearing the end, and neither team is really in the hunt.

B - the clock starts on them getting that first big contract if they go directly to the MLB. That combined with A, and it makes no sense to do.

C - they would have to be placed on the 40 man roster, which means someone has to come off the roster. And if I'm correct, that player would have to clear waivers.

Kid is basically ready to be a big Leaguer but no reason to rush him with the franchise being on last place. Plus a little seasoning in the minors won't hurt at all.

He might move up this year. But he will go to spring training and be on opening day roster next season.

bunch, most LSU fans do not follow MLB baseball much less track minor league movement. It's never guaranteed bubba

From a Washington Post article about the move:

quote:

The Nationals took Crews, 21, with the second pick in July’s draft. Ever since, he only has continued what he did at LSU, leaving Fredericksburg with a .355 batting average, a .423 on-base percentage and a .645 slugging percentage. Included in that line: five home runs, three doubles and six walks against 19 strikeouts.

Good shite.

Talking about advancing quickly, I saw where the Angels 1st round pick made his MLB debut today and got a hit. Hopefully Crews will be hot on his heels.
