I’m referring to the game itself. Not the whole season obviously. But let’s look back at the scoring summary.

CLEM LSU
1 6:34 CLEM Trevor Lawrence 1 yard run (B.T. Potter kick) 7 0
2:20 LSU Ja'Marr Chase 52 yard pass from Joe Burrow (Cade York kick) 7 7
2 13:43 CLEM B.T. Potter 52 yard field goal 10 7
10:38 CLEM Tee Higgins 36 yard run (B.T. Potter kick) 17 7
9:17 LSU Joe Burrow 3 yard run (Cade York kick) 17 14
5:19 LSU Ja'Marr Chase 14 yard pass from Joe Burrow (Cade York kick) 17 21
0:10 LSU Thaddeus Moss 6 yard pass from Joe Burrow (Cade York kick) 17 28
3 10:49 CLEM Travis Etienne 3 yard run (Amari Rodgers 2-point pass) 25 28
5:13 LSU Thaddeus Moss 4 yard pass from Joe Burrow (Cade York kick) 25 35
4 12:08 LSU Terrace Marshall 24 yard pass from Joe Burrow (Cade York kick) 25 42

Once they hit 17-7, Aranda woke that defense up and shut them down. This allowed our offense which started slow in the game to get going.

I’ll go with the guy that’s about to set the market for NFL QB contracts.

It was both. We had them figured out from the end of the first quarter on. We could've put 50 plus on then easy.

Clemson, for some reason, stopped going at Kristian Fulton after abusing him the entire 1st quarter.

I’ll never understand why, but am thankful regardless.

Nah. We didn't even have long, sustained drives. Many of the TD's JB scored were quick.

I think both carried us obviously, but the Offense was more important.

Fiction. Defense could have given up 100 that day and the offense would have scored 101

Did they win it for us?

We scored 42 points.

Obviously stopping them from scoring 43 helped, but the offenses did score TD on their next 3 possessions.

And those were 75, 87 and a 95 yard drive.

Hard to just say defense but it’s undeniable that was one of the best cfb defenses of all time. Aranda was the best at 2nd half adjustments as well

I think Joe would have outscored them in a shootout regardless, but the defense shutting them down after Q1 certainly made the game more pleasant to watch

Fiction, it took all 22 starters and those rotating in and out the game to close the deal. Great team, awesome team chemistry and competitive athletes who left all their efforts on the field each game they played.

Aranda's defense was criminally underrated for its contributions to 2019.

Burrow and the rest of the offense are of course the stars. But the defense played a huge role as well.

Fiction. The D was a huge part, but it was one of many facets of an incredible team that won that title game.

I love Dave, he was great at LSU and a big reason LSU had so much success. But if ranking the factors that allowed LSU to be in that game and then win the game it is Joe Burrow and then everyone/everything else.

Trevor Lawrence had a terrible game was also a factor. Defense got in his head.

Fulton started manhandling their receivers. IIRC, he intercepted one, and they called it off for interference, but it was a a marginal call.
