Mondo Duplantis broke the men’s pole vault world record for a sixth time by clearing 6.22 meters at an indoor meet in France on Saturday.
Duplantis, a 23-year-old, Louisiana-raised Swede, has now raised the world record from Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie‘s 6.16 meters in 2014 to 6.22 meters (20 feet and nearly 5 inches), upping it by one centimeter at each of his six record-breaking meets.

I love the celebration on the way down

Not joking, is there a better athlete currently at his sport? This is Bolt at his prime.

Kid is killing it. And I doubt he’s done.

Crazy. He actually cleared it with a good bit to spare. He'll break the record again.

I wonder what his actual personal best is. He's broken the record 6 times, each time beating the old record by 1 cm. Great for marketing, but I wonder what he could do if he truly went for it.

That's insane that someone can run with a stick, plant it in the ground and hold on enough to get 20 feet in the air.

This is a real question because I’m completely ignorant on this sport.
It would seem like this is essentially 100% based on technique and proper weightlifting and training.
How is it that one guy can be so much better than everyone else? Seems like they’d all be essentially the same.

DAMN!1 he's clearing the bar by at least a foot - at this rate he'll die of old age before he reaches his ultimate potential.

Speed. Not everyone has it.

But isn’t that the same for every sport? He apparently has the best combination of size, weight, fitness and technique in history. Why him? It’s a mystery.

He is doing it without yams unlike Bolt.
