Needs to be playing on a constant loop on every TV monitor in football ops this week. The effort or lack there of to make the tackle was embarrassing. Make the team sick of seeing that run.

I didn't realize the guy was such a load until I saw BJ struggle to tackle him for like a full 3 seconds.

Smh we won. Another words ur one of the guys that have no happiness in winning only anger in losing. Still harping on worst play for LSU defense. Why don’t you but it on loop and wallow in your anger.

Us winning doesn't excuse poor discipline/technique. Its actually the kind of thing great coaches harp on in spite of the fact that they got the win.

Exactly the kind of mistake that could cost us the game vs several of the teams we got left.

Defense needs to be better at understanding the situation. We need a sure tackle way more than a possible strip. Get the guy on the ground and don't give them a momentum changing play.

Look man. The California great tom petty just played. The backing down option was no longer on the table.

That play got them back into the game. It gave the Gators hope and momentum. Don't you understand that?

Kelly said the defense was too focused on trying to strip the ball from Richardson rather than bringing him down.

quote:

“Yeah, I mean, we’ve got to get the big guy down on the ground,” Kelly said. “He’s not easy to get down on the ground. I mean, we’re trying to rip the ball loose. You can’t rip the ball loose from that guy. You know, and obviously, you can’t get his arm in motion either. I mean, I guess that doesn’t happen either.

“So no matter what happens, you got to tackle, and we’re trying to rip the ball loose, punch it loose. And you got to get him on the ground. He’s just such a big, big guy. You know, I think that’s part and parcel some of the tackling issues. You got a big quarterback and we’re trying to do too much. We just got to get him on the ground.”

Yep. You are up by 21 in the fourth and in complete control of the game. Florida hasn't scored on their last 3 drives. And the only score before that was one your special teams gifted them...again! Realistically, Florida has only put together one long drive all night to that point.

Richardson is a load. He made a great play to pick up 2nd and 16. Just get him to the ground and make them use more clock. Even if they ultimately score, it is probably with under 10:00 to go and you are still up 14. In no way was strip needed.

Also, can we stop the narrative of LSU's strength and conditioning being so great. For the second straight week LSU's defense looked completely gassed in the second half. And it's not like they'd been on the field all that long. At worst, the time of possession was even (with LSU likely having a fairly significant edge).

Luckily that play didn't change the outcome. But it turned a 3 TD lead into a game where if not for a roughing the passer call (that doesn't always get called in that situation) your tired defense would have been left trying to prevent a massive let down.

It was a hell of a play. Richardson is a good athlete. Hard to bring down.

I think you’re drawing the wrong conclusion from that. When one team gets a big lead over a team that is equally good, the team ahead has a tendency to tighten up, and the team behind has a tendency to focus and let it all hang out.

Then you would see the massive hold that allowed him to get free past the line of scrimmage…yes the down field tackling or lack there of sucked, but the refs missed the hold that should have brought that back…

I agree. I think the defense pushed in the clutch after singing Tom Petty and they weren’t mentally ready for that first play. It happens sometimes where a team momentarily loses focus with a lead. Hopefully we learn from it. It’s why Saban always preached play like the scoreboard is zero to zero
