I fixed this one for you

What I guess I don't understand about the whole thing is, we are talking about athletics here, aren't we? I mean, this isn't an educational pissing contest we're discussing, but joining a conference for athletic competition, and if this guy is trying to say that their athletes are somehow superior in intellect to that of the SEC, I'd have to say he's a wee bit off his rocker. What does ANY of this have to do with the price of tea in China?

Not really. Considering how many public schools are out there, UT is definitely in the top tier. I know people are just being petty - I hate UT too. But people who are saying it's not very good and not selective are fooling themselves.

Again. I do not argue UT is TOP TIER and a notch above LSU and some other SEC schools academically.

I do argue that it is BETTER than Florida or Vanderbilt, when considering the agregate. Each have programs where they excell which differ.

The excuse that affiliation with the SEC will detract from their "brand name" is self-serving and false.

Well I haven't claimed that. UF and UT are pretty comparable. Vandy is better.

Honestly, only 3 SEC schools have the right to argue academics. Texas is #47 according to US News, tied with #47 Florida. Vandy is top 20 and UGA is somewhere in the 50's along with Ohio State, Pitt, etc.

It is just that. . .an excuse.

Texas is terrified of the concept of having to play an SEC schedule.

Terrified.

I do not argue that Texas is an excellent public university; however, for them to imply and think they are equal to Berkeley is silly. Also, if they care so much about the academic perception of their conference, why are they bringing TTech, Okie St,., and joining such academic powerhouses as Arizona St., Washington St., and Oregon St. Does the PAC10 even have something comperable to the CIC that the Big10 has? If not, then what is the academic advantage of being in the PAC10?

I , don't watch it and was amazed by the grief that was displayed in South Carolina when Dale died. Hey, if you are doing 180 MPH and hit a brick wall you are DEAD, what a shock.

LSU has actually been named a top tier school for the last two years now. However, with budget cuts we'll see how long that lasts!

If Texas cares so much about the academics of the conference brethren, why have they been satisfied to be in the Big 12? A conference that is academically inferior to the SEC?

And now that "keeping the Big 12 together" seems to be an option, the academic excuse flies right out the window.

ya, and they want to take 3 of the 4 worst academic schools from the big 12 with them

academic argument is a weak straw man

They will tell themselves whatever they need to to avoid the SEC. No way that school could come to the sec and play 8 SEC games a year. It decreases their chances to make it to thebig dance way to much for their liking.

They will never come here and I am glad.

Actually, I'm going to disagree on this one. Yeah the fans are a bunch of whining pussies, but if OU and UT are in the SEC, the SEC will have enough clout to force a playoff.

Absolutely none of this is about a playoff.

This all about domination, TV contracts, and BOWL money.

Forcing a playoff is nowhere on the radar.

I fail to see how your SPORTS conference affects your academics. Vandy, Florida and Georgia are the highest ranked SEC schools academically (right there with Texas) and they don't seem to have any problems in the SEC. If Texas was in the SEC, their fans might replace Florida's fans and the World Cup Board regulars as the biggest snobs.

It is definitely about power, but playoffs factor into it. The SEC wants a playoff because we will dominate and get more power. The PAC-10 and Big-10 want to avoid that because they will be exposed. The last playoff vote was ACC, SEC, Big East were for a playoff, and Big-10, PAC-10 and Big-12 against.
