Was at a Rice game a few years ago; different to say the least. The Owls were getting their asses kicked bad when the students started chanting "You will work for us"..."You will work for us".
Probably some truth to that.

I'm not going to say that there isn't some merit to that, because there is, but what's uglier than that is an arrogant group of disconnected snotty pricks who are so very self absorbed and myopic that they are the embodiment of what they claim to despise, INTOLERANT and BIGOTED, but what's worst of all is that they are bores who nobody wants to be around because of the previously mentioned inability to make room for anyone other than themselves and their own puffed up bullshite.

Texas is a lot closer to the SEC in this regard than the Pac-10. If we move to the pac-10, I just need to warn my brethren - get ready for some half full stadiums even with Texas in town... after the novelty and shine wears off in a couple of years.

Assume that this goes through and texas, ou, ok state, tech, and utah join colorado in the pac

in year 3 the pac west attendance is going to be pretty poor. USC will be suffering from sanctions and the new additions will be tired of traveling across half of North America when they can just turn on the television instead

I'm not saying that if UT comes back and says nah,, its us a OU,, the big 10,11,12 wouldnt be OK with it

but the big 10, has some pride with the academics,,of course aTm is a member of the AAU RICE sponsored them so,, even that would ultimately be enough

What is this world coming to? Texas is NOT southern at all, and we should only associate ourselves and the university with people/schools with the utmost prestige. Screw it... I'm going to have glass of wine before my croquet match.

If I had any doubts before how bad a fit Texas would be in the SEC, that thread removed them.

A couple of responses to various tangents in this thread.

1. UT is one of the best public schools in the nation and to pretend otherwise is silly. It IS a better school than LSU (and I'm a proud alumni of LSU). It would be far better than the rest of our conference. Only Vandy and Florida could argue. Does that mean every UT grad is superior. Of course not. I live in Texas and have a lot of UT grads who take orders from me. Every large school has a sizeable population of knuckleheads and UT is no different. Indeed, I would speculate that the knuckleheads are disproportionately represented on UT message boards, which is where the elitism and inability to have an honest discussion stems from. But all this being said, arguing that UT isn't all that great a school is a losing argument anywhere but the echo chamber of an LSU (or OU or aTm) message board.

2. We chant SEC because the fans of each school realize that a lot of the respect our champion is afforded is due to the quality of our peers. What is seen as arrogant by non-SEC schools is simply a respect for each other and a pride in the fact that whoever makes it as champion of our conference has truly made it through the ringer, is battle-tested and is well prepared for the gold medal game against the college football version of Finland (or was it Switzerland, I forget). The champ already beat the proverbial Russians by winning its Division and ousting a worthy foe in the SEC title game.

I thought I had more but this post is long enough.

Texas is nothing but a bunch of elitist pricks that can go run off to an easier conference in the name of a total lie called academics.

Once again, the Big 12 was sh1t for academics and they were never planning on leaving until Nebraska and Colorado left. Now they are fine bringing academic juggernauts Oklahoma, OK St, and Texas Tech to the Pac. Yeah, keep tell yourself it's about academics, it will go along with the lie that pervades your boards concerning the SEC. Texas is just scared, period. And they can't stand the thought of not being the biggest fish in the sea because they have a bunch of egomaniacs in Austin. It's so funny how Austin is supposed to be this accepting, liberal city and the school is nothing but a bunch of self-absorbed fvckers.

And why is image an issue? Because to salvage their own egos and feelings of self-superiority they've been bad mouthing the SEC for years. It isn't the SEC's image that's the problem, but rather the image the whorns have developed. It's fiction.

Not sure what you were getting at but my little joke was relevant. UT and it's jackass fans pull this whole academia card in an arena that we all know it has little significance in. The difference in admission standards between the SEC and UT, or Big 12 for this matter, means nothing at all when you consider who gets let in to play FOOTBALL at UT,OU,OSU, and Nebraska. Dumb little old LSU has had to let go of quite a few high profile recruits because they had trouble being admitted to school and most of them ended up at Big12 schools.

Vince Young, a former player who will probably have a statue erected or something named after him at UT one day, IS dumber than J Russell and most of the fifth graders in this country. With that said, you and everyone else who brings "academic standards" and UTs greatness in that area into this expansion discussion, can GTFO with that nonsense and see the burnt orange for what they are... scared elitists who really want as little real competition as possible.

I am quite sure this does apply to the sec. However, to think it doesn't equally apply to Tx is just pure horse shite.

From the Shaggy Bevo Thread:

quote:

Why are these mouth breathing knuckle draggers comparing present numbers? We aren't talking about the OLD college football landscape. We're talking about what the PAC-10 will look like with the addition of arguably the best division in college football.
