Coming from UTw, that is interesting. Anyone can get in there. Their academic requirements are not high. You could go on about other schools in their (now defunct?) conference. I would rather emphasize the positive. aTm has a great petroleum engineering program.

Isn't Texas the state ranked 48th in education? Is UT importing all of these bookworms from out of state? When I think academic excellence, I never think of UT.

No. That's probably Arkansas, Mississippi or Alabama.

You will have to be more specific than just "education."

Unless you are just interested in opinion.

K-12 education. If Texas' K-12 isn't as a whole creating a lot of Einsteins, how is a school so large getting these eggheads? They would have to be importing them from out of state, out of nation. I suspect UT alums have a far higher regard for their school's academic reputation than reality will support.

man, those guys are so out there it's more funny than offensive

Texas is the Yankees of college sports. There's no monetary need driving UT's behavior. The Big 12 was a shite hole of an academic conference, albeit 1000 times better in that regard than the SEC. Both the PAC 10 and Big 10 offer considerably better academic affiliations. When the Big 10 began expansion talk, the dominoes started falling from there. I've been hiring people for over a decade, hundreds of them, and to say that "a degree is a degree" is typical of graduates from the dregs of the academic world. I agree, LSU and Auburn and Ole Miss degrees aren't worth the paper they are written on and it shows in peoples' work performance almost without exception.

the yankees?

big 12 was a better academic conference?

Texas isn't motivated by money?

That thread is a fricking catastrophe. Some real dumbasses on it.

Your post is funny and it is funny the first two replies are so damn stupid they did not even realize they are being laughed at. Even with your ridiculous username, they still didn't get it.

What's wrong with that? We are Americana, not a bunch of arrogant snobs who enjoy thinking they are better then everyone else. A&M and Oklahoma get who the SEC is and might just end up in the conference cause they like it.

I would like to see a link showing that Texas is ranked that low. The Houston and Dallas areas have among the best public schools in the nation. Texas is regarded as one of the best public universities in the nation - only behind schools like Michigan and Berkeley. Admission into UT is extremely competitive because there are really just two really good public schools in the state.

You may dislike UT's snobbery - as do I - but you can't really dispute the school's academic reputation.

The thing that irks me about some of the Texas attitude at the top levels... it's like "yeah, Texas fans and alumni care about football, but it's not our life."

Uh... it sure seems like it among my group of family and friends and about everyone I know that supports UT sports. Texas is a lot closer to the SEC in this regard than the Pac-10. If we move to the pac-10, I just need to warn my brethren - get ready for some half full stadiums even with Texas in town... after the novelty and shine wears off in a couple of years.

There is indeed a lot of resentment toward the SEC just because we get worn out hearing the chant, etc. when we've always had decent success against the SEC - save for last year (spit). It's never been about conference at Texas. We generally root against/don't care when other conference teams are playing OOC games. As a whole, we'll never root for OU against Penn St. or LSU for instance. Conference be damned. Plus a lot of admin. at Texas don't want to be associated with "the south" as much as they can help it. Austin and UT are pretty liberal after all.

That does not fly in the SEC and it is part of the reason the SEC is so strong.
