You gotta give Mel Tucker credit

There’s a lot of hate on here for him, but in year 2 he has his team 8-0, in the top 10, with their best record in 4 years. He might not be who you want for LSU, but he’s a damn good coach.

Look at the full picture of his coaching career and not just 8 games.

He picked up Kenneth Walker III from the transfer portal. Impressive.

The full picture shows he's trending up. Rebuilt this Michigan State program. Just upset his rival school with average at best players.
His players have played hard for him and over achieved at his last 2 positions.

No doubt he has changed a lot of minds after today

We could do much much worse than Mel but I think woody shoots higher.

Maybe he should stay at Mich St.

Looking at the full picture makes him even more impressive.
Turned around a terrible Colorado team.
Fought through a nightmare COVID-19 season with an untalented MSU team and then processed double digit drain on the program while navigating the transfer portal to build this very decent team in the last off-season working a Michigan State.
Finally he did something, no other coach at MSU has ever done, beat Michigan in his first two tries.

I’ve been saying it since his name first popped up, he’s not among my top choices, but the dude can fricking coach and has a great resume.
We could, and have, done worse.
I prefer Kiffin.

How many super seniors does he have?
Is this a fluke?

Sort of agree. There are worse names mentioned.
I prefer a QB guru HC.

The next person who says this really deserves to be pilloried.
His predecessor was 5-7 at Colorado. He went 5-7 at Colorado. Colorado defensive rankings dropped in his one year there. He didn't turn anything around. That is a total, demonstrable lie

Took a 5-7 2018 Colorado team and turned them into a 5-7 2019 Colorado team.

As did every other coach in the country.

Oh Jesus you're reaching. What does that even prove? Dantonio lost his first year to Michigan but won the next 4 in a row. Would you hire Dantonio?
Come on, people. We cannot allow 1 successful season to justify hiring a coach. Not at a program of this size facing this much competition.

Is this all just one big fricking troll? Am I being punked? Where's Ashton? Come out, Ashton. You got me.

That seems fair to say as well.
Also, was Michigan St even as bad as they were made to be?
Either way, can't deny Tucker credit for this win today.

I think the Big 10 completely sucks this year. Michigan should have lost to Nebraska. But he's doing a good job to be 8-0 this year after going 2-5 last year.

Wrong. Again. Look AT HIS ACTUAL PERFORMANCE over time. He had a bottom ten NFL defense 6 of 7 years as a DC. He was amongst the the worst DCs in Bears history. He never had a winning season as a HC. He was 2-3 as Jags interim, 5-7 at Coloradp, and 2-5 at MSU. At each stop, the defensive rankings DECLINED in his first year as HC. There is literally NO consistent success in his past. Like none. The only success he ever had was under Smart, who was the real DC at UGA. Hiring a coach based on a single outlier year is inanity. Hopefully Woodward is smarter than that.
