You can't make somebody want a job they don't want.

Unless, of course, you overpay by a ton. In which case you've got a coach who is only in it for the money.
There were only 2 elite candidates this year, and it is obvious that neither wants this job.
Top 5 job my arse. If we were a top 5 job, we would have the best coaches in America falling all over themselves to get it. Where are they?

Who says they weren't? One thing entire episode has proven is that the average fan doesn't know jack shite about the coaching search.

Alleva set his sights very low, after Jimbo. This is completely on him not doing the legwork to find someone that would take the job.

Its not obvious that Herman doesn't want the job...at all.

Alleva painted himself into a corner with only Herman and Fisher. There are other promising guys out there we apparently didn't seriously approach.

You can still hire a good coach. It doesn't have to be home run hire or promote the d line coach. Other guys may not be sexy but are far more successful running programs than Orgeron and could be great at LSU with the recruiting base.

LSU isn't competing with some scrub school for these guys. It's fricking Texas and Florida State. These are three top 10ish jobs competing for 2 guys. Someone is going to get left out.

All of the other 306,731 threads on this topic haven't quite hit the nail on the head, but this one...this one...is the one that needed to be made. Thank you OP.

I think it's a top 5 job clearly if... if.... Saban is not at Bama crushing dreams left and right. I think that comes into play with some candidates.

If you're going to post that shite in every thread just go to another board.
Problem solved.

How is it obvious neither wants the job?

Seriously. The problem was Alleva getting into a three team race with two of the other 10 schools that can compete with. Why wasn't he vetting Gundy, or Fuente, or anyone? Jesus Christ

Are you trying to say it is obvious?
If so why is that? Because he he might be trying to maximize his money?

Based on random board posts? lol This isn't 1999, if LSU calls any coach is going to listen. But like any hire, there are many things that must fall into place for it to be a good fit (financials, power arrangement, fundraising role, etc...)
I do agree with your original premise though. If Herman wants Texas, he should wait to hear them out and we should move on. Who knows whats really happening though.

No.

The original post is full of indefensibly stupid inferences and assumptions.
First, when it comes to Herman and Fisher, we are trying to woo them away from other premier Top 5/10 coaching jobs, namely FSU and Texas. A failure to get either isn't proof that LSU isn't a desirable coaching position itself. Second, although you can't "make" anyone take a job, the athletic director is supposed to be an advocate who persuades and attracts desirable candidates. It isn't a hard sell with LSU. Alleva has failed to be an effective advocate if we don't hire an accomplished coach. Third, how do you know Herman doesn't want the job at this point? Fourth, there are undoubtedly other talented coaches in America who would love the job, but we've conducted a fairly narrow search, it appears.
Tired of our moronic, self-loathing fans.
