UH (and a lot of other G5 schools) deserves P5 as much as 2/3 of the P5 deserves P5. And certainly the entire Big 12 outside of OU, Tex and maybe Kansas.
It's arbitrary.

TF isn't a grad of UH. He is a thug that burned out other restaurants to obtain their property in Kemah. When you have his money, you can say shite like that.

Kansas

Do you realize that there are two schools in the Big 12 that you didn't name that have more athletic resources than Kansas? Or did you assume that Kansas was because you've seem their men's basketball team on TV?

Houston is nowhere near resourced enough to compete in the P5, now or in the near term. "Deserving" is not a relevant factor. Being resourced to compete is.

Come on. Yeah I hear what you're saying, but this is a little exaggerated.

I'll tell you what speaks volumes, and it's this...

"Lane Kiffin looked me in the eye and he knew when he sat down at that table that he was going to go with the contract that I put in front of him with the buyout that I wanted in front of him. And we never even got there."

The chairman of the board of regents has absolutely no business making a statement like this. He is supposed to have absolutely zero authority in decision making. "The contract I put in front of him"??? WTF? Imagine the outcry from the rest of the country if Paul Bryant Jr was the one yapping to the media like this about our next search. The AD should be the one speaking. I've never read anything about this guy, but it's obvious the media knows that he's more than happy to run his mouth when given the oppportunity.

Dumbasses like this...it's Not that they never heard of Jetgate, they just don't care. That's what power does sometimes.

You were going to provide that response no matter what the OP posted, weren't you?

The head of the board of regents at UH saying that he didn't want to hire a guy who would be flirting with better jobs from Day 1 has absolutely nothing to with who we should hire as OC.

I read the whole article. It seems to me there were some fans calling in to the radio show being critical of the hire. So he called in to justify it. Not a good thing for him to do. It's the AD's place (not his) to handle announcing & discussing the hire via press releases, conferences, interviews, etc.

He has been an OC on multiple NC teams

To be fair, he was co-OC with Sark at USC. He has been in some very favorable situations. At marquee programs stocked with insane talent and great defenses that allow for a lot of possessions and cover a multitude of mistakes.

I'm not saying he's not good, but he has been in OC paradise during his time at UA and USC.

I've been saying all along that his head coaching prospects are not, and may never be, what he thinks they are.

That appears to be true.

Wow. I can't believe that guy actually said what he said about someone in the interview process for a job. Saying that publically is unethical. If Kiffin isn't a fit for you, fine. But you shouldn't try to ruin his chances at other jobs.

Even if Kiffin is a piece of shite, that's wrong. Dick move.

Said it yesterday, he hasn't proven anything as a HC to make him a clearly more attractive candidate than Major.

This al.com article includes more "remarks" by Fertitta.

Lane Kiffin may be better off not going to Houston

University of Houston wants so bad to be a P5 conference team. Yeah, I know it's a big school enrollment wise and has the financial backing of boosters. So what. They are what they are, sports wise. A mid major. They're having major problems accepting that fact with their ego. It's not just about enrollment numbers and money of the boosters.

You can accept what you are and be successful as a stepping stone, or you can try to be the exception and have about a 90% chance of falling on your arse. Cincinnati sent two coaches up the ladder (mixed results, but they did well there), and then hired Tubby in a desperate attempt to get an established coach and look better than they really are. How did that work out? It was the equivalent of hiring Miles right now.

Schools like Memphis, Tulsa, Western KY, etc have all focused on being the best stepping stone they can be now, and it's working for them. Being a stepping stone has worked out even better for Houston in the past. The more they try to be what they aren't, the more it will hurt them in the long run. Their chances of either getting into the P5 of becoming the next Boise St are slim to none right now.

At least they hired a guy who has potential to move up rather than Miles, but their reasoning for pulling the trigger is off.
