If this doesn't speak volumes....

"Lane Kiffin did not show me anything that Major Applewhite did not show me," Fertitta said. "Sure, he's been a head coach and he's been an OK head coach. But I can tell you this: [Kiffin] was not a safe hire."

which is why he should be an OC and get fricking paid for it at LSU.

He has been an OC on multiple NC teams and has used multiple styles doing it. Why in the holy frick wouldn't we want Lane Kiffin as our OC if we can get him.

I'll admit i gave him hell and thought he was overrated but i can't argue with the results.

After watching our offense slug through the mud for the past several years don't you want some fresh water?

the words "was not a safe hire" can be interpreted multiple ways. it looks to me that UH was really tired of being a stepping stone, (even tho that's what they are and probably always be) so his definition of "safe hire" was someone they think will be there for a long time. they really constricted themselves in their search because of this. face it, a successful hire will want to leave, whereas a mediocre hire will certainly stay. but, these Regents have weird ideas and they all think they are right.

imo, Fertitta simply "liked" Applewhite and did not like Kiffin. lets' face it, hiring Kiffin has caused ulcers every place he's been.

This. I think part of that "safe" comment refers to Houston recruiting as well as continuity with the current Houston players and administration. Further down in the article he clearly says that both Kiffin and Miles will be good HC's. He just didn't think either was better for Houston than Applewhite, at this time.

Your response had nothing to do with the OP's post.

You were going to provide that response no matter what the OP posted, weren't you?

The head of the board of regents at UH saying that he didn't want to hire a guy who would be flirting with better jobs from Day 1 has absolutely nothing to with who we should hire as OC.

University of Houston wants so bad to be a P5 conference team. Yeah, I know it's a big school enrollment wise and has the financial backing of boosters. So what. They are what they are, sports wise. A mid major.

They're having major problems accepting that fact with their ego. It's not just about enrollment numbers and money of the boosters.

Good to know LSU isn't the only school whose moronic Supervisors think they know about football.

Applewhite is GOB as frick - shocked some rich regent favored him over a loose cannon like Kiff.

I'm sure that Applewhite said some nice things about wanting to stay at Houston, and the Houston crowd ate that shite up.
